noble prize winner, the Blindness is billed by some as the great novel of the 20th century and i love the plots behind his books i've heard of . But i'm always put off by people who say his lack of punctuation and paragraphs make his books almost unreadable, so has anyone read his books on here and what did you think?

My brother has found a great liking for this writer. "The Gospel According to Jesus Christ" is one of his favourites, I believe.

I tried Saramago's Journey to Portugal, but couldn't finish it, was too tedious for me. Maybe I just didn't like travelogues like this.

I've read Blindness(Ensaio sobre a Cegueira)and Seeing(Ensaio sobre a Lucidez). Not originial, but translated. Great writer. Blindness is definitely worth it to read.

Yeah, I've just finished Blindness too. It is a bit hard to get used to his style. Lot of people would lost the will to continue upon seeing the blocks of text. But once you get over yourself it is quite engaging. Definitely not unreadable.

We are blind. Blind but seeing. Blind people who can see, but do not see.

The most amazing and eye-opening (Saramago would have fun with that phrase) book I have ever read.

Read 10 pages then let it collect dust for a month then read the whole book today. A wonderful book everything I hoped and more (and implore everyone to read it if they haven't already)

The climatic chapter where they witness the people been burned alive in the supermarket basement, having been lured there by greed and lust for food (a brilliant allegory of hell on earth) followed by the scene in the church with all the religious figures blindfold or their eyes painted over (a final rejection of God after all he has put them though) is a wonderful end to the complete collapse of civilisation and a powerful summing up of the books main theme (only organisation and personal relationships keep us human)

Found the subtle mocking of the conception of an inbred collective morality though out the book interesting also.

Just found out the other day they made a movie of blindness staring danny Glover, which is one of the most random things i've heard in a while
