Marvel Comics

Does anyone read em?

It can be argued this belongs in Anime, but it's not really the same thing.

I'm following the Ultimate X-Men and Ultimate Ironman series. I loved how they revamped it all and gave characters new leases in life while re-explaining many of the concepts that have been marred by the numerous dubious crossovers of recent years.

I know most of you might think this is silly and adolscent but I never got the chance to read them when I was a lad, and now with the internet around I can download and find old comics I've never had the chance to read. They are a blast from the past..

How about it kids? It's quality reading ain't it?

I read some of them still - the Ultimate Avengers was class -but like most super-heroes stuff I just feel "how better was in the past"...
Comics are certainly like any reading, from total trash to great stuff.

yeah there is some total trash in it... i hate how they swap writers and artists around. A few issues of very good drawing and then 3 issues of totally unclean look. There's quite a bit of the olderstuff on the net J, I found Amazing spiderman from Issue Number 1 to 200.

I read comics too, some are excellent and some suck - just like in any other art form.

And Marvel is only one of the publishers that could be discussed here; there are also their main competitors DC Comics, all the smaller companies, the independents and underground comics (Robert Crumb RULES), not to mention to-quality stuff from other continents, like France's Asterix and Spain's Torpedo 1936.

I've been waiting more graphic novels lately. Some of it is very quality work, especially the art work which can completely compliment the story line. Very enjoyable

Isn't this where we came in?

Yeah, I don't have a local comic shop so this stuff is hard to come by for me.

I really enjoyed X-Men 2099 and 2099: Manifest Destiny... MD in particularly well written and darker but the idea and the end were absolute class.

I was a huge comics freak as a teenager and had all the good ones from the 80s and 90s. It's a shame I never took good care of them, and ended up giving most away.

Actually, what I did was blasphemous...I had the Death and Return of Superman series, Bizarro's world, Spiderman in a laboratory getting his mask removed etc.

Plus loads of Punisher, X-Men, Batman.

Gave 'em all away

Tintin and Asterix were my favorite. I read 'em all and still have a few left.

Comics were cool, and my parents were concerned because I got into the habit of reading magazines and comics only but never books. However, at the 6th grade PTA meeting in school, teachers reassured my parents that it was a good thing and that "at least he's reading something".

Don't lament the treachery of time;
long have dogs danced over the carcasses of lions.

Don't suppose that their dancing raises them above their masters;
for dogs remain dogs, and lions remain lions.

Insult me as you wish;
For my silence to the depraved is a response.

It's not that I have no response, but;
A lion does not reply to a dog.

I reading Thor led me into reading Greek, Roman, and Norse mythology. I was reading more comics than watching TV which was a very good thing

Trying to read my father's comic collection got me into reading when I was very young. Reading comics today compare to reading those from the 60s and 70s is like comparing the Batman movies to the campy television show And most of the graphic novels are very good and can stand on its own against some short stories and novelettes.

Arkham Assylum have indeed a great artwork, but Grant Morrison ego was in the way. This dude consider himself to be Frank Miller, Alan Moore or Neil Gaiman and he just isnt. He ended blaming Dave Mckean for some plot weakness...i bet he would be quite confused with Bill Sienkiewicz also...

I used to read them in the ninties in my teen years. I loved Spiderman the best. Especially when Venom made apperances, some of the artwork was amazing. I still have a bundle of old comics sitting in my cupboard. X-men, X-force, Wolverine and some Batman. I also used to love MAD.

I love the venom art.

I used to be a big marvel fan but over the last few years they have really pushed me away. I'm a big spidey fan so what they are doing to him at the moment is like a hot knife in the heart. Pretty much gone to DC, mainly I just get the Lucifer vertigo series and stuff like Y the last man.

My best series has to be Preacher, followed by V for vendetta and Marvelman/Miracleman. Come to think of it Marvel doesn't really rate that highly in my lists... even something like Moonshadow is sorta Vertigo's as well.

lol, he hasn't. I have. What I mean is the comic is currently being butchered. Gwen was turned into some kind of **** who screwed Norman behind Peter her one true love's back and had the green goblins kids (lied about it too obviously). Peter has now killed a villain. Oh and he is turning into a man-spider after finding out a spider-god sent the spider to bite him to fulfill his destiny as the chosen one of the totem powers. :irritate: Instead of science fiction, where Peter is a rational scientist he is now some kind of magic avatar. I can't even remember all the crap thats been going on, the blinding rage has given me too many blackouts to recall.
