Disgrace <> Life and Times of Michael K

I've read both of these books by Coetzee and I still can't understand how Disgrace made him win the nobelprize. I mean, LATOMK(Life And Ti...) was better imo. I liked it more.

What do you think?

I've only read Disgrace, and while I agree that the storyline and disarrayed portrayal of South Africa are certainly not ingenious or unseen, Coetzee has exceptional writing skills.

Treu about his writing skills, but the story in Michael K is IMO better. I loved the ending too, it's definetly a must read.

The only book I've read by him is Waiting for the Barbarians, which is quite an excellent story about remaining humane and retaining dignity in the times of governmental paranoia and violent misuse of power. He's certainly a very good writer, no doubt about that.

Big games are easy than the other games, unfortunately. Every times we have the control the games, under the control the games, during the games we had the some possibilities, some big chances, some big okazyons, something like that but what can I do, sometimes? And….it’s the football, that’s the football, something happened. Everything is something happened. - Fatih Terim

I read In The Heart Of The Country, which was a chore. Have not read Disgrace yet.

The Nobel isn't a single work-related award (like a Whitbread or National Book Award). It is an carreer encompansing award, thus the one book didn't win Coetzee his award, but the whole sweep of his carreer. They (almost) always mention an author's latest works in the Nobel press release, though, since that is waht most people will remember when they play the "now where have I heard that name again" game when they hear that someone has won a Nobel.

You know the scene it's very hum-drum
And my favorite song's entitled "Boredom"...
