Bulgaria in Eurocups 2014/15

There is still some suspense as to who will represent Bulgaria in the CL and EL next fall. Ludogorets have practically secured their 3rd round qualification in the Champions League, while the EL quotas are unclear. Most probably, the second and third places in the league will be taken by Litex and CSKA. The third spot in the EL qualification rounds is reserved for the national cup winner. The semifinals are:
Ludogorets - Lokomotiv Plovdiv
Botev Plovdiv - Lokomotiv Sofia (two legs).
If Ludogorets wins the cup, the runner-up shall take the EL quota. That's why the rich daddy-owner of Botev Plovdiv has not fired their manager yet for badly failing in the league - they still have good chances to eliminate Loko Sofia and get to the EL competition (matter of prestige) as cup finalists.

Ludogorets earned their third consecutive title before term, and are going to be the Bulgarian representative in the CL. They start as seeded in the third preliminary round.

Thus, it is already sure that Litex, CSKA and Botev are going to be Bulgaria's teams in the EL. CSKA and Botev have good fan support, it will be fun watching their games, although Botev cannot use their stadium for EL games, and will be playing in Burgas (sea side, nice place to visit)

Too bad that Botev experiences bad times, with their majority owner fleeding the country. They already sold out their last year team, filling the gaps with second-hand free agents. CSKA have completely reshuffled their squad, too. Imho, only Ludo and Litex stand chances to have a decent eurocups season.

Litex slipped big time. I don't think they can turn around that 0-2 result.

Ludo knocked out Partizan Belgrade. Lots of fireworks in the first half.

Let's hope for an "easy" team on Friday!

A good game of the Bulgarian champs indeed, although a bit shaky in defense. But let's hope that with the recovery of their injured players Ludo would look OK in Europe.

They have been lucky with the yesterday's results, and are the last seeded team for the CL Playoffs' draw. Their possible opponents are: NK Maribor (SVN), Legia Warszawa (POL), ŠK Slovan Bratislava (SVK), Malmö FF (SWE), Aalborg BK (DEN). I would think that Slovan and Legia would best suit Ludo's style.

EDIT: Ludo unseeded due to Legia's default...

Steaua are the last obstacle in the Ludo's way to the CL groups. Interesting Balkan duel it will be!

In the first leg the Romanians outplayed Ludo. Amazing crowd, and another excellent performance by the Bulgarian keeper Vlado Stoyanov. He saved 3 out of 5 penalties against his team this year!

The return leg is going to be in Sofia, but due to the summer season the national stadium won't be full as in the last year's games with Lazio and Balencia. In addition, there will be some couple of thousands CSKA Sofia fans supporting Steaua (Steaua keeps f*cking CSKA Sofia whenever they meet in the Eurocups; that's why the CSKA Sofia fans love Steaua).

I don't think Ludo will eliminate Steaua, although they will probably win the return leg, by conceding (2:1 expected). Steaua seem to be in better condition atm.

Steaua is a tough team, no doubt about it. Fast and physical. Still, I think Ludo could have pressed more in Romania. It's like they had their mind set on a 0-0 result (which btw was not very far off).

This could go to penalties. (But I do agree with you that a 2-1 result is also likely in Sofia, unless Ludo over-presses and Steaua counters in a couple ...).

This game easily in the top five I have ever seen live

Funny comments all over the football fora about Moti turning into Ludo's hero. He used to be a defender (and captain I think) of Steaua's arch-enemies Dinamo Bucharest. Most notable sayings:

That was a pretty brilliant match, Moti is a legend now - expect the Ludogorets owner to build him a statue with the CL money

Well ... the owner just upped the bonus for the qualification to 100.000 EUR per player and says that the new section of the local stadium will be named after Moti ...

Edit: Turned out to be 150.000 EUR per player except for Moti who gets 350.000 EUR.

Ludo is a bit unlucky with the goalkeepers (nr. 2 just got injured) ... soon they will be down to Moti again.

Georgi will be the keeper towards Liverpool.
