UEFA Intertoto Cup,
Second round , second league

NK Gorica 0-2 PFC Chernomorets Burgas (agg: 1-3)
A disappointing result in Bulgaria was forgotten as the visitors scored twice after the interval to turn the contest in their favour in Slovenia. Gorica, who should have led inside three minutes only for goalkeeper Vladislav Stoyanov to deny Matija Škarabot, were in front by virtue of away goals until early in the second half but that all changed on 54 minutes when Shener Hyusein kept his nerve from the penalty spot after Gregor Balažic had fouled Nikolay Krastev. The hosts pressed forwards for an equaliser that would have forced extra time but were caught out by a counterattack late on when Michel Platini scored for the second time in the tie to book a third-round date with Grasshoppers.

Chernomorets Burgas now meet Grasshoper in the third round. The first leg is in Zurich next Saturday.

1:0 Alex 84'

Very , very poor perfomance by Cherno more.

Chernomorets Burgas have lost his second leg from Grasshoper, this time with 0:1. Equal performance, according to the reports. Only 300 visitors, 50 of them from Switzerland. The only goal was scored from Raul Bobadilla (53') and Chernomorets have miss a penalty in the last minute.

Incredible luck for Cherno More Varna, since they will be seeded in the 2nd Qualifying Round of UEFA Cup. The reason was that Napoli and Panionis was draw to play eachother in the Third Round of Intertoto Cup !

Seeded teams coef. Unseeded teams coef.

Levski just got the easiest possible draw for the CL against Anderlecht or BATE Borisov. BATE won in Belgium 2-1 so now if they can finish the job Levski will have another great chance to qualify for the CL hopefully they wont mess it up this time.

Yeah I think Cherno More got the hardest draw from our teams and unfortunately they are also our weakest team in Europe so I feel like that game could go either way. For Litex and Lokomotiv Sofia it would be an emberassment if they dont qualify. As for Levski if BATE go through they must win at all costs. If its Anderlecht I still think Levski will win, but it would definetly be harder.

LEVSKI - BATE 0:1

From Uefa.com

FC BATE Borisov's fairytale UEFA Champions league campaign continued in Bulgaria as Vladimir Rzvekskiy's second-half goal earned the Belarusian champions a famous victory against PFC Levski Sofia, whose coach Velislav Vutsov immediately resigned.

Veremko heroics
BATE accounted for RSC Anderlecht in the second qualifying round, though Levski might have expected to prevail having reached the group stage as recently as 2006/07. Indeed, all was going to plan for the home side as they attacked from the off, but goalkeeper Sergei Veremko brilliantly kept them at bay, denying Georgi Ivanov from the penalty spot on 34 minutes. It gave BATE belief and the visitors took the lead on the hour when Rzveksiy rose unmarked to head in a corner. It was BATE's first and last opportunity of the game but, repeat the feat in the second leg in a fortnight and the most unlikeliest of group stage places awaits.

Pivotal moment
Levski will have other ideas, and there was enough in their first-half performance to suggest they can still turn the tie around. Despite having lost each of their last eight games in the UEFA Champions League they started with a real attacking intent, keeping Veremko busy throughout the opening half-hour. The keeper stood up well to the task and though he was culpable for bringing down Georgi Hristov in the penalty area, he made amends to deny Ivanov from the spot.

Vutsov resigns
BATE were invigorated, closed ranks at the back and gradually escaped the confines of their own half. It was from one such sortie that Rzveksiy capitalised on some lax marking to silence the home crowd, if only briefly. Levski went on the attack, defender Zhivko Milanov heading over the bar and then seeing another effort superbly saved by Veremko. Jean Carlos put another header agonisingly wide in the dying moments, and it was too much for Vutsov who stepped down soon after full-time. Assistant Emil Velev has been named as his temporary replacement.

What can I say really...the BG championship is such that Levski and CSKA are not way above the other teams but then that makes them equally bad rather than equally competitive abroad. Nevertheless, unless these two clubs start applying their domination via financial(market economy related means) instead of political/lobbyist, this can only get worse. Im refering here to the usual practises of applying pressure to the referees and trying to snatch players from smaller clubs for next to nothing. The communism is long over!

Then again, who are we kidding? The simple maths is such: 4 clubs are in the CL/UEFA, 2 have no fanbase(or do but all fans know each other by name), the other 2 have fans but not at the stadiums because they are either from Sofia and not bothered to go to the games or live in some remote small towns. In other words, these clubs play for nobody in Europe so their fates there doesnt make any difference to the average Bulgarian.

p.s. - For some reason, I find Loko Sofia's defeat a bit more humiliating than Levski's...the latter was kinda like...expected?

Bulgaria’s Lokomotiv (Sofia) has dropped out of the UEFA Cup Tournament after drawing 1-1 against Serbia’s Borac (Cacak) in the second match between the two teams.
In the first match Borac defeated Lokomotiv (Sofia) 1-0. Dimo Atanasov scored the goal for the Bulgarian football club in the 18th minute. In the 35th minute the referee awarded a penalty kick to Borac.
