Horrible news! McCartney in intensive care from bomb blast!!

Hes in melbournes Alfred hospital with burns to abt 50% of his body, they are speculating whether or not he will play again, bugger that! I just hope he can pull through!!

Him and Mick Martyn were in the next club and Martyn received minor burns whilst McCartney copped it harsh

pray that he'll be ok

sh!t !!!!!

I knew there were lots of football teams involved from all the codes but i didn't think players playing at this level were affected :eekani:

is he much of a profile in the AFL? How much sh!t do you reckon would go down if a high profile player was seriously maimed or even killed due to this incident (i know former Eastern suburbs/Sydney city roosters player Craig Salvatori's wife is missing in Bali so obviously that will make news up here in League country if they do find her body or don't find her at all

he plays at the kangaroos, not too high profile but well known nevertheless, a reputation as a hard man

I think it would send shock waves through the AFL players and fans alike

geelong players were walking towards the club when it went off

dermie and friends were debating whilst in a taxi on the way to the airport whether or not to go back for a few more drinks

it could have been horrendous for sonme AFL clubs

geelong, melbourne and stKilda all had players drinking at that club 6 straight nights before that

The SANFL Premiers Sturt copped it as well ... 1 reserves player was killed as well as an official who has been with the club for decades.

Most of the playing squad received injuries of some kind with full-forward Julian Burton being airlifted home in a Hercules today for major surgery.

"They picked on the wrong man - and the wrong country. It was like pouring petrol onto a fire as far as I was concerned.

There's an old saying that the dog that barks loudest never bites. They did a lot of barking but we bit them pretty hard. Uruguay's attitude just showed how scared they were of us - it was their last resort."

- Vincenzo Grella, Parma & Australia.
