Sam's Anti-Soccer Tirade on TFS ...

Just when I think the old [email protected] has mellowed in his old age he comes out and launches a tirade against the state govts of NSW and VIC for launching the WC Bid for 2014.

His initial point of the bid having the potential to kill the game or at least harm it had strong merit, but to go on and say the old anti-soccer chestnuts of "the game is foreign, boring, we can't even play it here, etc" really p1ssed me off.

What a hypocrite, especially considering him and the rest of the panel did everything but blow Harry and Mark when they were on before the Leeds vs Colo Colo game!

How did everyone else see it, if at all ... ??

"They picked on the wrong man - and the wrong country. It was like pouring petrol onto a fire as far as I was concerned.

There's an old saying that the dog that barks loudest never bites. They did a lot of barking but we bit them pretty hard. Uruguay's attitude just showed how scared they were of us - it was their last resort."

Al DT was referring to Sam Newman Im quite sure ,We'll to say the least I was so PI##ED off with SAM I could'nt believe it sometimes so much S##T comes out of his mouth its unbelievable,And in some ways I wish I was there to see Krackers Beat the F##K out of him.
Saying that Soccer is boring has he ever seen a game,I dont like to bring Footy down but Sammy AFL is played in one Country only and not in all the states its folloed so well like the others and dont forget why Soccer is called the world Game and why AFL will only ever be Aussie Rules. So keep your "SHI$$Y comments to yourself.

Australia will host WC 2014

They have everything the world wants + the fact they have never hosted one + taking into FIFA's policy of WC rotation , Oceania is overdue for one , & Oz is the only country in the regoin that can realistically host one !!!

Guys don't beat yourselves up over what ol Sam "freeballer" Newman says. We all know he is drunk on nearly every Footy show and 99% of the stuff that comes out of is mouth is bull.**** anyway. I just ignore what he says and laugh at the stupid bastard.

Sometimes i think football (soccer) fans need to lighten up. AFL and Rugby League fans and commentators tend to heckle each other often and no-one takes offence. I think guys like Sam know how upset many football fans get when he heckles the game and he prays on this insecurity

Also, maybe if fans behaved themselves at games (i'm talking NSL) and didn't give the media any reason to pick on the code then their would be a lot less ammunition available to heckle soccer

Really. I thought Fiji could do a god job. If things wen't wrong they could just stage a coup where all the refs and FIFA officials were staying and install their own refs

I couldn't give two sh!ts from a personal perspective - just like when he makes a tired anti-Crows or anti-Collingwood comment, etc.

The thing that really p1sses me off with Newman is that there were hillbillies in the crowd who applauded what he said, and unfortunately, kids watching Newman and even impressionable adults would believe and agree with what he says and as a result the anti-soccer sentiment of the general public (and majority of AFL fans) continues to grow and repeat.

nah dt, I uswed to think that, but ive come to realise we make a mountain out of a molehill, there'll always be some rednecks that'll neva take to soccer...fine..... and bugger the few little ones who continue the redneck trad., remember that amongst juniors, soccer has more participants than footy and league together.......... Im not in the least bit concerened that the clown did us soccer any harm, if so it was very minute

Well if that is the case then this is very sad . I think most of the population know that Sam is a flip though and i wouldn't necessarily labels those that cheered him in the crowds "rednecks" Tiger (even if what he said about the game being foreign could have been construed as Rascist). I think some of these who cheered Sam were perhaps just worried about football taking over AFL as the no1 code, an understandable insecurity to have if football is not your cup of tea

I've always wondered why Soccer couldn't have an AFL or Rugby league style "footy show" though? Obviously Union is too posh for such as think (unless we get that van Zilj bloke involved :fero: ) but i think such a show could change the perception of the game in the minds of the public since all the coverage (especially on SBS ) is about eternal doom and gloom :rollani:

ahh bullsh!t andreas but ure forgiven as u didnt grow up in an AFL dominated place, trust me on this, these 'rednecks' couldnt give a flying f*ck abt being worried or anything along those lines, they just plain and simple think soccer is for fairies hence I refer to tham as rednecks not coz of any alleged rascist insinuations, just basically dumb hillbillies

like I said there'll always be a few, even if soccer were to become number 1 in the country, its just the way it is, its not like it was 10 years ago where ideally those comments could and would have shaped a majority perception

well we have those types north of the border too Tiger (the Rugby league types) but they are referred to as "boofheads" or "meatheads", probably due to the steretypical physique and the fact they are about as literate as your average 5 year old

I think the guy that is on TWS for the Rugby league each week is a good example. Although he even looks bright when Les " i only know about soccer" Murray interrupts and makes on of his embarassing statements :rollani:.

Oh and i wouldn't blame these pll for thinking soccer is for fairies if their first experience was Rivaldo's academy award performance :rollani :irritate:. Why couldn't someone have jumped the fence and tackled him so we would get what he deserved for that low act?
