LOL @ NY teams. Official Thread

I love it how they suck this season. Especially the Njets with their dirty Russian oligarch money backing and their shady, salary-cap-sidestepping deals with Kirilenko and Teletovic. Shows yet again that spending a lot of money on famous names don't bring you instant success.

Of course what makes it even funnier is that unlike most other teams who look destined to miss the playoffs, Knicks and Nets don't gain a thing from sucking in this great draft year as Knicks 1st round pick belongs to Denver while Atlanta has the right to swap their 1st round pick with Brooklyn. I can't even imagine the butthurt felt in NYC if one of those should somehow end up as a top 5 pick.

Big games are easy than the other games, unfortunately. Every times we have the control the games, under the control the games, during the games we had the some possibilities, some big chances, some big okazyons, something like that but what can I do, sometimes? I didn't expect Knicks to be good, especially nowhere near the #2 seed. The only reason they did so well last year was because the veterans lead the team and the 3P% was insane. The Knicks let too many talented players go over the years and replaced them with trash. I gave up all hope when JR Smith got an extension.

Brooklyn on the other hand, on paper, I was expecting at least a #4 seed. I didn't think they would win a title or even come close to it, but somewhere around 50 wins was definitely doable... but damn.

Edit: and it's not just basketball. None of the area teams look like they're making the playoffs (Jets/Giants eliminated, Yankees/Mets both missed out, all the hockey teams are doing shit).

Btw, anyone know why the upstate NY teams don't get grouped in with the rest of the NYC metro teams? Granted they're a ways out, I find it funny because the Devils (in NJ) and Islanders (on Long Island) are counted as part of the "Magnificent Seven" when the Bills and Sabres aren't.

I still expect the NY Rangers to make the playoffs...Devils and Islanders unlikely.

As for the Buffalo teams, its because Buffalo is its own TV market and a good 5-6 hours away by car. The New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders are shared in the NYC market...in fact outside of the Brooklyn Nets (in winter sports), MSG/Cablevision owns the rights to all three NHL teams and the Knicks.

I expected Nets to suck and repeat the story of the Lakers from last year as another veteran "super-team" past their prime...although it is surprising they are so bad. Losing Lopez for the rest of the season might actually mean they don't make it to the playoffs even in this incredibly weak Eastern conf...which actually might qualify as one of the most massive fails in NBA history if we remind ourselves they were among the top 4-5 title favorites before the start of the season.

The Knicks, of course, are exactly where they deserve to be after years and years of mismanagement and total lack of cluelessness and neglecting the build-up for the future by trading their draft picks and ignoring young player development.

The Knicks lose 83-95 to the Raptors but they were missing Melo.

Brooklyn defeated Milwuakee 104-93.

They also had a 12 point lead that they shitted away in typical Knicks style.

$184,000,000

That’s what Nets have earmarked for salaries plus luxury tax this season — $101 million in payroll, $83 million in penalties — and that latter figure is more than double the total tax burden paid by the 30 teams in 2011-12.

I don't know what else they expected from an owner who never used a computer and didn't know what e-mail was.

The NY teams don't understand the secret of basketball, which is to build a team with 3 bananas and a bunch of GOOD role players (not benchwarmers) that know their roles. This two superstar + scrub formula has got to go.

2012-13 Heat
Bananas: LBJ, Wade, Bosh
Good RP: Allen, Chalmers, Battier

2008-10 Lakers
Bananas: Kobe, Gasol, Odom
Good RP: Ariza, Fisher, Artest

2007 Celtics
Bananas: Pierce, Garnett, Allen
Good RP: Rondo, Posey, Perkins

Spurs have had the same formula even before Parker and Ginobili, winning the title with Duncan, Robinson, Johnson + Elliot, Elie, Jackson

All the Bulls teams in the 90s, Lakers and Celtics in the 80s were all built the same way.

Well, the Njets was supposed to have a full starting lineup full of superstars:

Lopez
Garnett
Pierce
Johnson
Williams

The 5 All Star lineup ...now when was the last time we heard that sales pitch?

oh right...

Well, if Garnett/Pierce were in their prime, it'd likely be a different story. But headng towards the end of their careers, they aren't reall All-Star type players anymore.

It was a risk unfortunately and it failed miserably. The previous season they didn't look too bad but with guys at that age you should always consider the "IF" scenario. Now this season it is apparent they're out of gas. No fuel left at all.

Sounds like someones angry that NYC chewed them up and spit them out. It's okay.

Knicks getting completely destroyed by Pacers in Indianapolis...a team of individuals vs a real team where players help each other out.
