College Basketball 13/14 Thread

An exciting NCAA season lays ahead with lots of highly touted NBA prospects making their one-and-done seasons on college level.

AP Poll preseason rankings:

5 Kansas 0-0 1,357
6 Arizona 0-0 1,311
7 Michigan 0-0 1,120
8 Oklahoma State 0-0 1,093

17 Marquette 0-0 510
18 Connecticut 0-0 448

25 Baylor 0-0 180

Big games are easy than the other games, unfortunately. Every times we have the control the games, under the control the games, during the games we had the some possibilities, some big chances, some big okazyons, something like that but what can I do, sometimes? And….it’s the football, that’s the football, something happened. Everything is something happened. - Fatih Terim

I never watch college basketball, but that's definitely changing this year. Gotta get a look at these touted stars. Can someone give us a list of where the top pospects are playing this year?

Wiggins and Joel Embiid in Kansas.

Randle, the Harrisson twins, Cauley-Stein and James Young in Kentucky (considered to be the title favourite)

Jabari Parker in Duke.

Marcus Smart in Oklahoma State.

McGary and Robinson III in Michigan.

Aaron Gordon in Arizona.

Adreian Payne and Gary Harris in Michigan State.

probably the safest bet for the player of the year would be Doug McDermott from Creighton who already last season put up insane stats of 23.2 ppg, 7.7 rb, FG 57.3% 3PT 49.0% FT 87.9%

He's predicted to be only a late first round pick in the draft, though.

Parker and Wiggins both looked pretty good. I loved the 3-point shooting form of Parker, nice high point of release and the ball took a super low and straight trajectory but seemed to find the target every time. Right now he seems like a more mature player than Wiggins although the latter's athleticism will translate to NBA's level no doubt.

Also Joel Embiid looked very promising, having an excellent court awareness and passing ability for a 7-footer who started playing basketball less than 3 years ago. Dick Vitale on ESPN couldn't help it and started with the early Hakeem comparisons already (given their similar body type and nimbleness and the fact they're both born in Africa and started with basketball very late)...he could become a very great player indeed although his post skills are yet raw.

what's a good place to watch NCAA streams live?

Is it just me or is Andrew Wiggins very disappointing. So far Embiid looks the better prospect by far.

Embiid is indeed brilliant but Wiggins definitely is a good prospect and has played well so far vs Colorado too.. although not sure if #1 good (meaning better than Jabari Parker).

There also a possible mid 1st round draft pick playing for the Buffaloes: Spencer Dinwiddie.

Looks the part in the second half, Wiggins I mean. Driving and getting to the line. Kansas have no outside shooting hence the clogged lanes and no answer to the zone defense. Colorado killing Kansas so far.

Sweet victory for Colorado with this last second three-pointer and all...there's a long history between these two schools and they hate KU with passion

It's amazing they won it despite of their horrible free-throw shooting and overall weaker FG% compared to Kansas...cool team which might go far.

Also it must be said that ESPN has started early with Wiggins dicksucking...you'd think there was only one team out there today and of course Wiggins was raised into almost mythical status. None of the dubious calls going to KU's favour were questioned (like what looked like a Wiggins charge into Dinwiddie which would've given him a 4th foul)...then the commentator tries to invent an "extra step" on Booker's last second three pointer...

Also all the rivalry and the passion like shown tonight by the Buffs fans is what makes college sports in a way more meaningful and passionate than the pros...you don't see thousands of people invading the court and celebrate like crazy when Clippers beats Lakers in NBA.

My sentiment.

I will go watch 'Canes in Coral Gables at least once, because I am indeed a 'Canes Fanatic, but NCAA Basket or even NBA they dont really do tickle my fancy

Warren Buffett offers billion dollar prize for a perfect March Madness bracket: http://www.businessweek.com/news/201...-in-ncaa-bet-1

the odds are like trillion to one though...but every top 20 bracket will get $100K too apparently

Some rumors circulating around that both Embiid and Parker might not join the draft this year: http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/...am_Hinkie.html

About Embiid I wouldn't be surprised as he could use one more year to improve his fundamentals and not many saw him as a certain one and done when he joined Kansas.

When it comes to Parker though it would be more surprising but the fact that his buddy Okafor joins Duke next season might play some part in it as together they would have a very good shot at the title. Leaving this summer would leave some "unfinished business" indeed...

I heard a lot about the big man Embiid potentially staying (I think he even answered it in an interview). I didn't hear much about Parker, only random sources, if that's true though, I think that would be great.

It is always better to be safe than sorry. Embiid I think would do a reasonable job already if he was in the NBA. The center position isn't too competitive, he can easily be a 10/10 guy. But obviously if he stays another year, he'll be a much more developed prospect and enter the NBA more prepared than ever. His stock might drop a little bit much like what happened to Perry Jones and other guys but it could be worthwhile.

Parker has been having problems with bigger guys on him especially defenders with long arms. He needs to figure out these defenders because in the NBA he'll have it much worse with James/Durants/Dengs/Georges of the game. He's been having trouble and he's not shooting the 3s as much anymore either. Defensively, he won't have to worry much as he'll get that development in the NBA.

Wow close game between Duke and Syracuse. Duke did a great job considering they've been inconsistent this year. Went to overtime but Syracuse was the better team and pulled through. Parker was so-so better on the boards but again mediocre offense/fg%. Him and Jefferson fouled out. The two teams will get a rematch again but I doubt it will be as good as the the first game. I think though this game shows that March Madness this year is going to be crazy. There are no clear favorites unlike some previous seasons. Arizona is also undefeated but I'm not too impressed by them, I think we'll get some unusual winner this time.
