Who's the 2nd best player of all time?

Bill Russell IMO...11 times champion, 5 times MVP and the creator of the greatest, most dominant dynasty ever in NBA.

it's obviously debatable if Kobe and LeBron deserve to be on the list (the first because he might not be good enough and the second because he might not have achieved enough yet) but the fanboys would start to whine anyway if they're not here.

Big games are easy than the other games, unfortunately. Magic is 2nd best after Jordan. Russell played in a weak, pre-salary cap era with a small talent pool, which allowed the Boston team of the 60s to offer big money to superstars. Magic led the Lakers to 9 Finals in 12 years, winning 5 championships. 3 times MVP, 3 times Finals MVP and still is the only rookie to ever win the Finals MVP.

Jordan - Best individual player of all time
Magic - Best team player of all time
Bird - Most intelligent player of all time

These 3 are the best ever I've seen in their positions, and will be on my team for an alltime starting 5. Jordan is the guy for one-on-one, Magic is the guy to build your team around and Bird is the guy to take the last second game-winning shot.

Magic & Bird. ilgenio is spot on about Magic and is slightly underselling Bird. Coming from a Laker fan that's understandable. Bird wasn't as talented as Magic but the drive to win, the mental strength he brought to the table. Doing whatever it took to win.

Bull Russell and Wilt Chamberlain belong to a different era, can't really make a judgement on that.

Fan boys can go to hell. Kobe and LeBron shouldn't grace these levels.

Hmm yeah you can say Russell, Magic, or Bird. Those are fair.

For me IMHO I'm going with Bird. He played ridiculously well considering he wasn't an athletic player. It is almost unheard of. He made the game look ridiculously easy without having to break much of a sweat.

Hard for me to make that pick purely on watching highlights and stats and not real game (haven't actually seem anyone of these guys in their prime other then Kobe and Bron) - So I feel like picking either one of these names without actually seeing them would be worth nothing without substance.

For me the 2nd best i've seen after Mike would be Hakeem, even though I was young at the time, I wasn't too young to remember (since 92-93~)

Don't waste your time on jealously; sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind.

The race is long, and in the end - it's only with yourself.

I agree with you.

I would also like to add that Magic Johnson is probably one of, if not the most versatile player in NBA history. He could play every position there is. He was also a great leader, had great court vision (which led to many of his showtime assists), had good speed, and had a nice offensive game as well.
