Rules of Basketball

In this thread, I will ask questions about rules in basketball.

Question: What is "travelling" and why is it not properly called?

A player travels by illegally moving his pivot foot or taking too many steps without dribbling the ball.

You get two steps after you have control of the ball (post dribble) before you have to release the ball. You can stay in place and pivot off an established foot but the ball must be released prior to lifting that established pivot foot or you will be guilty of traveling.

When I happen to catch a game of basketball, it seems like this rule is broken all the time. Most of the dunks they show on the highlights have guys taking 3 steps after their last "dribble." Is that accurate or am I not understanding the rule properly?

The first "step" you see is usually accepted (in the pros) as being their last step in picking up their dribble.

Rule number 1 : Don't be a dick.

That rules you out Wayne Gretzky, goodbye.

Don't waste your time on jealously; sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind.

Question: How do foul accumulations work? How many does each player and team combined get? When do those free throw for each foul things come into play?

Each player "fouls out", or must leave the game due to excessive fouls. In the NBA, a player fouls out when he has fouled 6 times. When a team total of fouls reaches five in the quarter, the opposing team will shoot free throws for each of the fouls for the rest of quarter, no matter what type of foul it is. Now, when you are in shooting motion, and you get fouled, you shoot free throws. The number of free throws you take depends. If you are in three-point range, it is three and in the two-point range it is two free throws. Now, when the opposing team fouls you when you are not in shooting motion, you take out. If the other team is over the limit (has five or more fouls in the quarter), you shoot two free throws for any non-shooting-motion foul. Now when the quarter has ended, both teams go back to 0 team fouls but player keep their personal fouls (the ones they have picked up).

nba player has 6 fouls, once he reaches six hes done for the game.

each quarter a team has 4 fouls to give. basically if a player gets tripped and the opposite team still under 4 fouls that player will not go to the free throw line. if the team is under 4 fouls and they foul a player who is in shooting mode he will go to the free throw line for 2 or 3(behind the three point line) shots(Only in shooting mode). once a team is above 4 fouls and a player get tripped accidentally he will go to the line automatically since the team is above 4 fouls.(they call it over the limit) there is a case where if the time left in the quarter is under 2 minutes and lets say for example the team hasnt commited a foul the whole quarter, theyll only have 1 foul to give. so if they commited 1 foul the whole quarter and its under 2 minutes they still will only have 1 foul to give. thats an nba rule. remember thats under 2 minutes only.

so basically if your in shooting mode and you get fouled you will go to the line everytime. if your not in shooting mode you may or may not go depending if the opposing team is over the limit.

now theres technical fouls. these fouls are given by referees to players or coaches, if a player/coach gets a technical foul the opposing team will have one shot at the free throw line. if a player or coach accumulates 2 technical fouls he will ejected from the game, 1 technical foul=$15 000. the way you can get a technical is if a player or coach harasses(keeps yelling at a ref) for example the coach thinks a foul was not called on one of his players and he starts yelling and cussing at the ref, he will get a technical. a player can get a technical if there is some shit talking between players, also if a player starts taunting a player, for example he just dunked over him and he stares him down. that is a technical foul.

now there are flagrant fouls. there are two types flagrant 1 and 2

a flagrant 1 foul is where a player if fouled hard. the player will get 2 shots and the ball after those 2 shots.

a flagrant 2 foul is where a player is fouled hard but the other play who fouled him had no intention of going for the ball and just wanted to take him out. that again is 2 shots and the ball. they player is ejected and will be fined from nba.

More or less the same: H2H - 10 teams league. Traditional; 9th season now. I never managed to win the league: we have an automatic draft so I never get to get a good team.
This season I finally got a decent teams when suddenly injuries started to kill me. I currently have a play off spot guaranteed but I can`t make past the first round (semis) unless my opponents get hit by injuries.

I proposed a league here at XT, but noone replied earlier.

We MUST make one next season though.
