EuroLeague Official Thread

Any Euro ball fans out there? I follow regularly and thought I would start a thread on it.

Currently, the EuroLeague 2011-12 season is in its' Quarterfinal stages. Here are the matches (they are on a best-of-five series and none of the series have finished yet):

QUARTERFINALS

CSKA Moscow (RUS) 1-0 Gescrap Bilbao (ESP)
Montepaschi Siena (ITA) 0-1 Olympiacos (GRE)
Panathinaikos (GRE) 1-1 Maccabi Electra Tel-Aviv (ISR)
FC Barcelona Regal (ESP) 2-0 UNICS Kazan (RUS)

And here are some stats from the season:

Player Rating

1) Andrei Kirlienko (RUS)
2) Mirza Teletovic (BIH)

Points Per Game

1) Mirza Teletovic (BIH) -- 21.70
2) Vassilis Spanoulis (GRE) -- 17.86

Rebounds Per Game

1) Milan Macvan (SER) -- 8.20
2) Donatas Motiejunas (LIT) -- 7.90
3) Marcus Slaughter (USA) -- 7.20

Assists Per Game

1) Omar Cook (MON) -- 5.69
2) Sergio Rodriguez (ESP) -- 5.38
3) Dimitric Diamantidis (GRE) -- 5.12

I think Olympiacos win the whole thing with Vassilis Spanoulis leading them along the way. It will also be interesting to see, for me, how Maccabi does after finishing 24-1 in the Adriatic league (practically an Ex-Yugo League). Also, I am dissapointed that Caja Laboral (Mirza Teletovic's club) didn't make it to the next round. They were tied on points in the first stage group table but missed out due to the tiebreaker (which is based on head-to-head matches).

Game of the season last night, Maccabi won Panna in OT away to make it 1-1

Just 2 home wins and we're in the final four again, although I don't have hope for that to happen, Panna is just a better team.

As for the eventual winner, it's either Barca or CSKA imo.. they're head and shoulders above the rest for me.

Don't waste your time on jealously; sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind.

The race is long, and in the end - it's only with yourself.

I used to follow it but it is the same story every season: CSKA, Maccabi, the Greek duo or Barcelona. These are major contenders each year!

I want a Turkish or Italian team to push the above mentioned teams but it just doesn`t happen. Efes tried for so many years recruiting good coaches and players but just could not make it.

Maccabi with a great win yesterday over Panathinakos. Tommorow´s game will certainly be a very big atmosphere. A win and Maccabi reaches the Final 4. And IMO, Maccabi needs this win because a fifth and decisive game in Athens PAO won`t lose it.

Maybe Maccabi Tel Aviv Vs. Panathinaikos is the most classic game of European basketball for their tradition, titles and especially passionate fans.

So far, here are the teams in the Final Four:

CSKA Moscow
Olympiacos
FC Barcelona Regal

One team left to be decided. It will either be Panathinaikos or Macabi Electra Tel-Aviv in the semi-finals. My prediction to win the whole thing Olympiacos) is still gong strong.
