Saudi football thread.

I know this is pretty much going to be a one man show (ie me talking to myself ) but I'll give it a go.

So...

This is a general Saudi football thread, anything to do with Saudi football, wether club or national can be posted here.

Main topics of the moment.

1. League championship.
2. World cup preparations.

1. League championship:

We're now at the business end of the season: the golden square. It's harvest time, who goes home with the title?
First round: Ittihad v Ahli. Coming into this game, Ahli were very confident, but their dreams were shattered as Ittihad trounced them 3-0.

The goals:
[1-0] Kallon
[2-0] Tagoe
[3-0] Tagoe

I hope to see Noor and Manaf setup these kind of goals in the world cup ( ya rab :nervous: )

Up next, they face Hilal on Sunday in Riyadh.

2. World cup preparations:

Suffice to say, things don't look promising at the moment. We'll have to see what surprise Paqueta will have instore for us in the game against Egypt a week from now.

what would be the most likely line-up, tactic, squad, formation, etc. that the saudis would take with them into the wc?

Hi saciuk,

What's the likely lineup? I don't know. Paqueta is still experimenting and muddling .

But my ideal lineup would be:

Code:
__________________________ Zayed ____________________________

Doukhi ______ Montasheri ___________ Tokar __________ Khathran

_____________ Kariri __________________ Aziz _________________

__ Noor __________________ Temyat ___________ Shalhoub/Manaf _

__________________________ Qhatani ___________________________

It seems by that formation that they are a very attack minded team, i think the best defence for any team is to attack. Am i right in saying that the saudis play a fast counter attacking football against opponents?

Belgium (11/5), Togo (14/5), Czech Republic (26/5), and Turkey (31/5) are the only ones 100% confirmed.

The Egypt game seems to have been cancelled.

League championship:

Ittihad lost 2-1 in extra time. The game finished 0-0 in normal time. Dissapointing.

How does the KSA league championship work? Is there a knock-out competition after the league games?

Don't lament the treachery of time;
long have dogs danced over the carcasses of lions.

Don't suppose that their dancing raises them above their masters;
for dogs remain dogs, and lions remain lions.

Insult me as you wish;
For my silence to the depraved is a response.

It's not that I have no response, but;
A lion does not reply to a dog.

Attram was average today and I haven't been following the league to have an opinion on the other day.

All I have to say is: Nasha'at Akram is brilliant! He toyed with Hilal today and Shabab's one-touch football was a joy to watch, even for a Hilal follower like me.

Congrats to Al Shabab.

Hilal won trophies while Itti leave empty handed... I'm satisfied!

Nice spin. You forgot Ittihad won the Asian Champions league this season. IMO that's a bigger trophy than the crown prince cup.

Congratulations to Shabab, worthy champions that topped the table and confirmed it by a convincing 3-0 win in the league final. But HiJazzey how come Ittihad won 2 Champions Leagues in a row and did very well in the Club World Championship but didn't enjoy as much success in Saudi the last 2 seasons?

I also want to ask you about that player Fahd ElMehalal who used to play in the 90's. Do you know where he is playing now? Or is he retired? He is one of my all time favourite Saudi players. Used to be a very prolific striker indeed.

Hi Ahlawi Canada,

Ittihad has been inconsistent , hence we had a bad season domestically. There's also a small game mentality which meant we played crap against weaker teams.

Fahad al-Mehallal has retired. He was a great player indeed.
