Off topic: Music!!

Hey guys

This is completly off topic but I'm curious to know something.....

I'm listening/trying to bring to Toronto the Trance DJ duo Aly & Fila from Egypt here to Toronto. I'm just curious; how well known (if at all) are they in the middle east? It's hard to communicate with their electronic music community since it's so small, so I have to go to every resort.

Thanks for anyone who replies!

Still Madridista and apparently I have no honor

Aly and Fila? Haven't heard of them, so I assume not very famous.

Trance isn't big in the ME anyways.

Do you have their website by any chance? I'll try to ask for you.

Also, where are you planning on bringing them in TO?

Thanks and good luck.

Hey, thank you! Within the electronic music community, they are gaining a reputation slowly but their talent is spectacular so eventually they will be well known.

Their website is www.alyandfila.com and Pooh, they definetly are Egyptian. Aly's grandfather was Baligh Hamdy who was a well respected Egyptian musician, kind of a pointless fact but anyways.

Trance is an electronic music genre. I'm not the right person with the correct technical language to explain it, but I'll suggest some songs for you to download to get the idea....

Rank 1-'Airwave'
Paul Van Dyk-'For an Angel'
Moogwai-'Viola' (Armin Van buuren Remix)

and ofcourse.....
Aly & Fila-'Eye of Horus' (Ronski Speed Remix)

If I am not mistaken, I think Chantal is Palestinian/Canadian. If she is the one, then she has a nice lovely voice but she is not popular in the ME anyway.

Not inside, obviously. They set up near the pyramids. I've definitely heard of things like concerts being held in Giza.

I honestly do not know, judging by my taste in music I think because she dose not sing Arabic music, she uses so much western musical instruments that dose not suit the Arabic listener taste. Also her voice is very different than the ones the Arabic listner is used to.

That is only my opinion.

Wrong again.

Chantal was born in Egypt to Greek parents, I believe, yet she considers herself Egyptian.

Hey Spaniard, I've been trying to d/l a sample clip of "Eye of Horus" for the past two days. You know where I can find one? Sadly no one I know has heard of Aly & Fila.

RE: Music at the pyramids.

Many events were held in the past just beside the pyramid, such as: Opera Aida, the Futsal Pyramids Cup (yearly tournament, Brazil won last edition, see pics below), the ACN 2006 draw, Squash tournaments, and several other music concerts (Sting once held a concert there). However, the authorities are usually very careful and not any event gets accepted to be held there, especially music events (considering how the loud noise could affect the pyramids).

Found a picture of Sting's concert at the Pyramids and the Sphinx. God bless Google

According to the BBC, the event drew more than 10,000 fans. A certain percentage of the profit from this event went to Palestinian relief organizations.

I only remeber flashes about her, I thought she is the one who participated in that raising stars programme with Helmi Bakr. She was Canadian too but Palestinian origin.

I do not think Hakeem would bring back joyful memories from this picture
