Al Kuwait get big lift

Al Kuwait received a massive boost ahead of the start of their AFC Champions League campaign with a big win over Kheitan in the 7th round of the Kuwait league season.

Kuwait’s representatives in the AFC Champions League crushed their opponents 4-1 with Bahrain international skipper Talal Yousuf scoring a second half brace as Al Kuwait recorded their fourth win in six games this season.

Al Kuwait had to come back against Kheitan after falling behind after just five minutes to a Mohammed Youssef goal. However, Abdullah Nahar levelled the score in the 25th minute and Mishal Hamid put Al Kuwait ahead two minutes later.

In the second period, Yousuf scored in the 64th minute before wrapping up the win with his second of the game in the 73rd minute.

Kuwait’s other Champions League side, Al Salmiya, continued their stuttering start to the season as they were held to a scoreless draw by Al Jahraa. They remain in tenth position with just two wins in seven games.

Reigning champions Al Qadisiya remained five points clear at the top after hammering minnows Al Sulaibikhat 3-0 with Brazilian striker Adil Oliviera scoring twice and Mohammed Rashed adding a third in the dying minutes.

In other matches, Al Tadamon fell to a 5-1 home defeat against Kazma, Al Yormuk beat Al Shabab 2-1, Al Arabi claimed their first win in five games with a 2-0 win over Al Nasr, and Al Sahel defeated Al Fahaheel by the same score.

Lebanon

Nejmeh score important win

Lebanon league champions Al Nejmeh continued their perfect way in their title defence as they defeated last year’s runners-up Al Ahed 2-0 in the 11th round of matches.

Al Nejmeh claimed their 28th point to remain in first place and opened a three-point gap over nearest rivals Al Ansar who suffered their first league defeat at the hands of Safa.

Al Nejmeh continued their good form in the league as they defeated Al Ahed 2-0 in front of more than 15.000 spectators at the Sports City Stadium.

Ghanaian striker Emanuel Dua opened the scoring with a looping header in the 33rd minute to put his side ahead at the end of the first half.

In the second half, Al Nejmeh continued their pressure and sealed their victory with only three minutes left on the clock when substitute striker Mohammed Ghaddar scored the second goal.

Elsewhere, Al Ansar suffered their first league defeat at the hand of Safa who scored a 1-0 victory thanks to a lone goal by Ahmed Al Nemaani in the 50th minute.

In other matches, Olympic Beirut lost 1-0 against Mabarra and Tadamon Tyre defeated Sagesse by the same score while the game between Akhaa and Shabab Al Sahel ended in a 2-2 draw.

Al Sadd overcome early set-back

Struggling Qatar champions Al Sadd enjoyed a morale-boosting win ahead of their AFC Champions League Group C opener against Al Ahli as they came from a goal down to beat Al Khreitiat 2-1 in Round 20 of the 2004/05 Q-League on Thursday.

Al Sadd went behind less than a minute after kick-off when former Arsenal striker Kaba Diawara scored the fastest goal of the season.

However, any notions that Al Sadd would be gone in 60 seconds were dispelled thanks to two goals before the break from Jaffal Rashid (15th) and Iran international midfielder Hossein Kaebi (22nd).

Despite the victory, the ten-time national champions are languishing in mid-table out of touch with runaway leaders Al Gharrafah, who continued their unrelenting march to the title with a last-gasp 1-0 win over Wakrah.

Even though they were missing the services Q-League top scorer Ala’a Hubail, scorer of 17 goals before picking up a knee injury, France’s 1998 World Cup winner Marcel Desailly, and Qatar international Saad Al Shammari, who had a spell in Denmark with Ejsberg, Bruno Metsu’s side still had enough strength in depth to eventually see off the 2000/01 champions.

Rodrigo Mendes, who won a 2003 AFC Champions League winners’ medal with Metsu at Al Ain, scored the winner in injury-time.

Saudis abandon play-off format
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) has announced a different format for the 2005/06 season, with the controversial top-four play-off system replaced by a winner-takes-all round-robin league.

“There will only be a two-stage league championship being run under a round-robin format, beginning with 2005/06,” middleeastfootball.com quoted a SAFF press release.

The move was taken after the outcome of the 2003/04 season, when Al Ittihad topped the league in the 22-match regular season without losing a single match only to go down 1-0 to Al Shabab in the decisive play-off.

“The club that gets the most number of points, like in almost all countries around the world, will be rewarded with the league championship title,” continued the SAFF communiqué.

The championship play-off format for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Cup, as the Saudi league is more formally known, was introduced in 1992. Since then, the club that topped the table at the end of the regular season went on to win the championship play-off just five times.

Al Ittihad was the first club to achieve the feat in the 1996/97 season and accomplished it again in 1999/2000 and 2002/03. Al Hilal is the only other club to have done the double, winning in 1997/98 and 2001/02.

Syrian ACL sides enjoy league victories

Syria’s AFC Champions League 2005 representatives Al Wahda and Al Jaish both enjoyed victories in their last league matches before they embark on their respective debuts the forthcoming ACL.

In Round 16 of the Syrian league defending champions Al Wahda edged Al Talia 1-0, with skipper Maher Al Sayed’s 50th minute effort enough for the Damascus side to claim only their seventh victory of the season

Al Jaish, meanwhile, stayed above Al Wahda in the league standings as they overcame Teshrine 2-1 to claim fourth place.

Midfielder Feras Esmaeel gave Al Jaish the lead after 33 minutes but Fouad Jawad leveled the scores with a 77th minute penalty.

But the joy was short-lived as Zyad Chaabo netted the winner five minutes later with his seventh goal of the season.

Elsewhere, high-flying Al Karama’s hope of a first title since the 1995/96 season suffered a blow as the Homs-based side was held to a scoreless draw with Al Futowa.

Al Karama slipped further behind leaders Al Ittihad who opened up a three point gap at the top as they hammered minnows Jabla 3-0.

Al Ittihad victory, thanks to a brace from Yihya Al Rashed, gave them their 37th point at the top of the league standing three points ahead of their direct opponents Al Karama.

Yihya Al Rashed opened the scoring after just eight minutes before Mohammed Amna doubled the lead for Al Ittihad in the 54th minute. Barely 120 seconds later Al Rashed scored his second of the night to steer his side to victory.

In the other matches, Umaya suffered a 1-0 defeat at home against Al Majd, Hottine defeated Al Shorta with the same scoreline while Al Qrdaha were held to a scoreless draw by Al Horiya.

Try to avoid choosing short (like '1'), simple (like 'abcd') and easy to guess passwords (like a name of your favorite team, player, etc)! Complex and long enough passwords, that consists of random string of alphabet and numerical characters, are almost impossible to be stolen and misused.
