Upcoming Friendlies

I realize that the headline says early 2003 and the International calender is pretty congested but still I would like us to be able to play more often. Don't see us improving otherwise.

Canada to Play Two International Matches in Early 2003 (canadasoccer.com)

Ottawa, Ontario - The Canadian Soccer Association today announced that its Senior Men’s National Team will play the National Team of Libya in Tripoli on February 12 followed up by a match versus Estonia in Tallinn on March 29. Both matches will represent the first time Canada has played either nation.

“I am pleased to get our Gold Cup preparation program into high gear so early in the year,” stated National Team Coach Holger Osieck. “These matches will help us in our preparations for the July Championship and I look forward to getting our players together again for these games.”

As both matches are co-ordinated within the FIFA International Calendar, the Canadian team will assemble in both locations approximately 3 days before each match for preparation.

The CONCACAF Gold Cup will be played July 12-27, 2003 in USA.

Well, at least they've picked a couple of teams we have half a chance of doing well against.

Estonia are no pushovers though. They tied Croatia 0-0 earlier this year.

We should be able to beat Libya quite easily though.

Are these matches 100% or are they yet to be confirmed?

"Libya have said they will bid for the 2006 African Nations Cup and also have an ambitious plan to host the 2010 World Cup finals.

"As yet Libya have no stadiums of World Cup standard and the country has little more than 120 hotels but there are plans for state-of-the-art stadia as part of the 2010 bid on display at the June 11 Stadium."

Libya recently beat Egypt 3-2, and they will be no pushover at home in Tripoli. I am not saying Canada shouldn't win, but it will be a 'tricky' game.

Hey, Sigma O, nice of you to drop in again.

Now Canada seems to have lined up an exhibition match with Germany for next summer as a warm up to the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July.

Would be cool!

After the last friendly was rejected, because we had to play the playoffs for WC-qualifiying, i would be happy to see you in germany, or to play us in Canada!

Friendly against Germany

Canada will finally play a friendly in Germany!

It will take place in the new VW-Arena in Wolfsburg at 1. June 2003.

I hope Canada will play with all their "stars"!
For Germany its a test match for the upcoming qualifiers against Scotland and Faröer Islands, so the best team will play IMO.
