CSL 2010 Thread

It's a 13 team league this year with one division and everybody playing each other 2 times. Here are the teams:

FC Hamilton Croatia
TFC Academy
London City
North York Astros
St. Catharines Wolves
Brampton Lions
York Region Shooters
Serbian White Eagles
Toronto Croatia
Brantford Galaxy
Milltown FC
Montreal Impact Academy
Portugal FC

------------------------------------------

I believe the big rule change is that you can only call up players within your own club, more specifically your reserve team. Gone are the days when you can register with an OSL team and have limitless "call ups" to the CSL. Good for the CSL, bad for the OSL.

The league is at the top of the *Pyramid for Play* which is a step in the right direction. It's been so hard to build this game in this country but at least there seems to be some direction right now.

There are 4 games today:

Milltown FC v Serbian White Eagles @ Bishop Reding SS @ 8:00 pm
Portugal FC v Montreal Impact Academy @ Lamport Stadium @ 8:00 pm
London City v TFC Academy @ Cove Road @ 8:40 pm
Hamilton Croatia v York Region Shooters @ Brian Timmis Stadium @ 9:00 pm

Milltown has their first ever home opener against the Serbian White Eagles. Serbs were a strong team last year and unless something went wrong, they'll be strong this year. Milltown is a good young team and hopefully they get good support from the town.

The Montreal Impact Academy will probably find it hard to win away from home, referee's in Ontario won't help them out.

London hasn't been a strong team for years and I expect TFC Academy to get the better of them.

Hamilton Croatia has it's home opener against a tough York Region Shooters team. They're formerly known as Italia Shooters in the CSL, but probably better known as Real Toronto of the RSL. This will be a good measuring stick for Hamilton as I expect Shooters to be one of the top teams this season.

Croatia Hamilton had last minute heartbreak as the Shooters tied it up late. It was a hard fought game from the start. Shooters had the better of the play in the first 20 minutes and Croatia for the rest of the half. A handful of small chances for each side, I believe Shooters had the best chance off a free kick that was just pushed away by the Croatia keeper.

The second half was similar to the first and Croatia took the lead with about 20 minutes remaining. A bouncing ball got through the defense, Croatia striker did a little lob over the outcoming Shooters keeper but couldn't get to the ball in time to put it in the open net. He did however find a teammate who buried the ball in the net.

Shooters of course had some good pressure after the goal and were rewarded with a late one. Shooters striker took a shot that his a defender and just looped over the keeper and under the crossbar. Heartbreaking for Hamilton but a draw was a fair result. As I said before, I believe Shooters is one of the best teams in the league and we've shown we can play with them.

In the other games, Milltown with a big home opener against the Serbian White Eagles. Milltown pulled otu the 1-0 win which is huge. They had about 600 people at the game which is also good news considering how small Milton is. Good for them and I wish them success in the year.

Montreal Impact beat Portugal 3-2 after being down 2-0. Surprisingly, London beat TFC 3-1. I don't say this because TFC is particularly good, but London usually isn't and I didn't think they'd win this one.

On Saturday, North York and Montreal Impact played to a 1-1 draw.
