Canadians in Germany

Canadian players are flying high in Germany. In the Bundesliga 2 Canadians are affiliated with the top three teams in the league.

Young Nik Ledgerwood plays for the Amateurs (Reserves) of the third place 1860 München. Daniel Imhof (who scored Friday) is a starter for tied for first place Bochum and also tied for first place is Kevin McKenna's Energie Cottbus.

McKenna just scored his second hat trick of the season against FC Saarbrücken (the first against Sportfreunde Siegen). He leads the Bundesliga 2 with 8 goals in 10 games. Unfortunately fellow Canadian Tam Nsaliwa plays for last place Saarbrücken.

Kevin McKenna

Wouldn't it be something to see all three teams promoted to Bundesliga 1!!

Joe McCarthy posted the following in another thread, and I thought it was worth repeating here:

Win some you lose some. Daniel Imhof's VfL Bochum have been promoted to Bundesliga 1 while Josh Simpson's Millwall have been demoted to third tier English League One.

Looking good for Kevin McKenna's Cottbus to promote to Bundesliga 1 but looking perilous for Tam Nsaliwa's Saarbrucken and Nik Ledgerwood's 1860 München to avoid relegation and stay in Bundesliga 2. They are barely out of the relegation zone but it is tight with four games left.

Canadians in Germany

An update to the above

Daniel Imhof promoted with VfL Bochum to German Bundesliga 1.

Canadians in German Bundesliga 2

Rob Friend is now leading the league in scoring with 9 goals in 7 games for Borussia Monchengladbach.

Kevin McKenna transferred down a division to FC Köln from Energie Cottbus ($$$).

Josh Simpson transferred from Millwall to Kaiserslautern.
Patrice Bernier transferred from Tromso to Kaiserslautern.

Jonathan Beaulieu-Bourgault is with St. Pauli and Nik Ledgerwood is with 1860 München.

Early in the season, but Borussia Monchengladbach and 1860 München are at the top of the table, FC Köln and St. Pauli are in the middle of the pack and Kaiserslautern are near the bottom.

Luckily, the Canadians haven't contributed to Ktown's woes as Simpson has been injured and Bernier suspended for portions of the season. Both have been described by the coach as very important to the team and wants them in the starting lineup.

Tam Nsaliwa is now with AEK Athens of the Greek Super League.
