Copa America

For the vast majority of us who don't particularly care who wins Euro 2004, our attention can now turn towards the South American equivalent, the Copa America.

Fixtures:

The top two teams in each group plus the two best third-placed teams qualify for the quarter-finals.

Mexico and Costa Rica have been invited to take part by the South American Football Confederation.

July 9 - Peru v Venezuela - Lima
July 9 - Colombia v Bolivia - Lima

Third-Place Match

Final
July 25 - Lima

Telelatino plans to carry all the matches live, but as usual, their public relations leaves a great deal to be desired.

They have a complete schedule on their website but when they say "Times are local/EST" they apparently really do mean EST and not EDT. (Maybe Peru, the host country, doesn't believe in Daylight Time, I don't know.)

The reason I say this is that TLN are now promoting the following live broadcast times for the first few matches, which I assume are Daylight Saving times:

Code:
JULY 6 Venezuela vs. Colombia 18:30(ET)/15:30(PT)
       Perú vs. Bolivia 20:30(ET)/17:30(PT)

JULY 7 México vs. Uruguay 18:15(ET)/15:15(PT)
       Argentina vs. Ecuador 20:30(ET)/17:30(PT)

JULY 8 Costa Rica vs. Paraguay 18:15(ET)/15:15(PT)
       Brasil vs. Chile 20:30(ET)/17:30(PT)

JULY 9 Colombia vs. Bolivia 18:15(ET)/15:15(PT)
       Perú vs. Venezuela 20:30(ET)/17:30(PT)

JULY 10 Uruguay vs. Ecuador 18:15(ET)/15:15(PT)
        Argentina vs. México 20:30(ET)/17:30(PT)

Because the 2006 eliminatories for Conmebol are in full swing, and just getting underway for the 2 guests from Concacaf..this Copa America AGAIN, just as the one in Colombia..is lacking plenty in the talent Dept, as MOST Confederations really didnt want to attend this funeral, the invitees for the different teams are mostly young, inexperienced players..Yes there are xceptions, and some stars will attend, BUT for the most..this is a TRAINING DRILL for Germany 2006, and nothing more. :depress:

Why then hold it every two years? Would it not make sense to hold it every four like the Euros and have it a real tournament each time?

Andrija ... Im with you...Conmebol is not...Leoz only look$ at the bottom line. He could care le$$ about the people who pay his salary, the player$ .
No one, while he's in power will convince the Federation to scratch this tournament as well as the other idiotic cup about to start after Copa America, the INFAMOUS Copa Sudamericana.

p

Anyways, Peru - Bolivia was very entertaining. Almost as much as all of Euro 2004 minus the CZE - HOL game.

And right now, Saviola

hahaha game just ended 6-1! When Ecuador tied it I thought they had a chance to get a point and maybe push for a win but then two minutes later Saviola scored his first and he would later score two more. Fell bad for Ecuador though, they are a decent team.
