Unlike our men's team, the Canadian Women's team is a world power in soccer. We are ranked 12th in the world by FIFA, and that's generally considered to be an under-rating.
Our chance to show what we can do against the best teams in the world is coming up with the FIFA Women's World Cup, being held in the USA Sept. 20 to Oct. 12.
The schedule for Canada:
Sat. Sept. 20 - Germany v. Canada
Wed. Sept. 24 - Canada v. Argentina
Sat. Sept. 27 - Canada v. Japan
Assuming Canada advances from Group play to the Quarterfinals, we will play Thursday, Oct. 2, probably against China.
If we survive that, the semi-final will be on Sunday October 5.
The Final will be on Sunday October 12.
All Canada's games will be shown on Sportsnet.
Digital Cable subscribers can see the games live, but regular cable subscribers will have to stay up late to see the matches on tape delay. Check the Sportsnet listings
for broadcast times in your zone.
The favourite to win the gold is USA.
The ABC network will carry some of the USA games:
USA v. Sweden - Sept. 21
USA v. North Korea - Sept. 28
