Peschisolido-o-o!

Did anyone else see Pesch score the brilliant go-ahead goal for Sheffield United on Sportsnet today?

He came off the bench in extra time with the score tied in the Blades' match against Nottingham Forest. At stake was the right to play Wolves for promotion to the Premiership. He deked about three defenders before blasting the ball into the back of the net.

Now they just have to beat Wolverhampton on May 26 to go up.

He showed great skills in tricking the three defenders out of his way but I feel the goalkeeper should have done better with the shot which was rather central and not too hard. But then again, maybe he was fooled as well... Great goal in any case.

And what a game it was!

I'll never forget his reaction screaming "Oh my God, Oh my God!".
Classic celebration.

Can't feel but happy for him.

Good job Pesch and good luck.

Sheffield United is pressing for promotion again this season.

A hat-trick by Pesch on the weekend put the Blades into third place, four points behind leaders Norwich with a game in hand.

from Canadasoccer.com:

The FA Cup had a strong Canadian presence this weekend as Canadian strikers Paul Peschisolido and Iain Hume turned in a pair of spectacular performances.

Sheffield United battled Colchester and gave Peschisolido the nod to start. The Canadian did not disappoint early on, giving Colchester fits and his fellow Blades glorious looks at goal. With United unable to score, Peschisolido took it upon himself to do the honour in the 61st minute. The strike turned out to be the deciding goal, as the game ended 1-0 with Peschisolido going the distance.

Iain Hume - the star who eliminated Bolton with a winning strike earlier in the tournament – found goal yet again for Second Division Tranmere. This time the winner was against upstart Swansea, capping a 2-1 triumph for Tranmere. Hume played the whole match. His goal was a superb left-footed blast into the top left hand corner from well outside the 18.

The performances of both Canadians drew praise from many onlookers. Tranmere manager Brian Little referred to Hume as “a gem.” Meanwhile, Peschisolido’s performance was described as “the difference” in his match.

Sheffield United will now face the winner of Birmingham City and Sunderland while Tranmere will travel to Millwall for a berth in the semi-finals.

Derby have signed Sheffield United striker Paul Peschisolido, with Izale McLeod moving the other way on loan until the end of the season.

Canadian Peschisolido, 32, has signed a two-year deal while McLeod has joined with a view to a permanent transfer.

Peschisolido's deal was due to expire this summer and, despite being offered a new one, he has decided to move on.

Neither player will be allowed to appear in the fixture between the two clubs at Bramall Lane on 23 March.

I found out this:

Canadian striker Paul Peschisolido joins Derby County on loan

DERBY, England (CP) - Canadian international striker Paul Peschisolido is leaving Sheffield United to join struggling First Division side Derby County on a free transfer.

Peschisolido's contract with the promotion-chasing Blades, also in the First Division, expires at the end of the current campaign. The 32-year-old from Pickering, Ont., who has nine goals this season, turned down the Blades' offer of a contract extension in favour of a deal that will keep him at Derby until June, 2006. Peschisolido, who has played for Canada 48 times, also spent time with Birmingham City, Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion, Fulham, Queens Park Rangers, and Norwich City.

He is married to Birmingham City's managing director Karren Brady.

"We are sorry to lose Paul but since before Christmas he has indicated that travelling three, sometimes four hours per day for training has been getting to him," Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock was quoted on the club's web site.

"And, although we offered him a new contract, his move to Derby was clearly not just for financial reasons. He was approached by Coventry a few weeks ago, which I think made him realise that at 32 years of age, it would be nice to be at a club closer to home for family reasons.

"However, he had decided to stay until the end of the season when out of the blue Derby County offered him a deal until 2006 on triple the wages we had offered.

"Whilst the financial aspects were not the be all and end all, this was too good a deal for him to turn down. I feel, having talked to him, he should be allowed to go for his family's sake and we owe it to him for his outstanding contribution to United over the last three years. We wish him all the best for the future."

Rams striker Izale McLeod, 19, has moved to Sheffield United on loan until the end of the season but with a view to a permanent transfer, the terms of which have already been agreed.

However, the clubs have agreed neither player will feature in the Derby-Sheffield United clash at Bramall Lane on March 23.

Derby is third from the bottom of the First Division with a 8-15-11 record. Sheffield United is fifth at 16-11-7.

Peschisolido's arrival follows the signing earlier this week of Birmingham defender Jeff Kenna, and the two new recruits are expected to make their debut for the Rams against Rotherham on Saturday.

So I hope he can help Derby to avoid relegation!!!!

Paul Peschisolido was delighted to maintain his impressive goalscoring record on Saturday.

The striker made a dream start to his Derby County career by netting the only goal in the Rams' 1-0 victory over Rotherham United at Pride Park.

It was the seventh time Peschisolido has hit the target on his debut, having previously made goalscoring starts for Birmingham City, Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion, Fulham, Queen's Park Rangers and Sheffield United.
