Incredible enough Borini with the goal after some great work by Conti.

Quite undeserved lead overall, Donnarumma been our best player IMO.

To reinforce that point Donnarumma just makes a good save on a fantastic Veloso shot.

Then Suso with the second, this after a great through ball from Cutrone.

LOL...Suso scores with his right

Bakayoko is a monster in the middle. He is the best player in this match.

Conti to the bar line and cross!
We have been missing that since Cafu and Serginho.

MOTM = Leo. If Piatek was playing, Genoa would have scored 3 goals.

Piatek had accumulated too many yellows and could not play the game either way. But at least he's eligible against Napoli.

But Piatek will not find the same service he has at Genoa. Fucking shame Genoa had so many clear chances.

Nice win. Could have gone either way really. The first half was really poor I thought, the second a lot better (still not spectacular). Overall still a lot to improve. We need to be better at using the midfield. The ball too often bypasses the midfielder either with our without the ball. We need to have the skilled players have the ball more, and the rest make runs. We've been too used to only Suso being capable of that, because Hakan, Jack, Biglia, Kessié, etc rare even try through passes.

Some details:

Donna was great (even if he had his scary moments as always).

Conti was good when he came in and his assist was decisive, and Abate does not disappoint as CB again.

Bakayoko really imposing presence in the middle. I though Paquetá made some mistakes and missed a clear header, but looks extremely promising overall, very active, amazing skills, good understanding with Suso already, and almost scored a beauty and assisted another. Hakan as mezzala a bit better than as LW, but still not a lot from him. Either Mauri or Jack when they come back seem like better options better, not to mention Kessié and maybe Bakayoko when Biglia returns. Mauri did very well in the second goal, before Cutrone's pass.

Borini almost scored a great goal from a Paquetá pass, great save from Radu but corner not given. Also very generous with his running as always, as was Cutrone, who also gave a great assist but was quiet in their box. Great goal by Suso, who was as always creating danger but lacked a bit of delivery now and then.

IMO a bit of a dilemma for the future. The right side with today's formation is potentially extremely promising: Conti, Paquetá, Suso. But that means either benching Kessié or using him as left mezz'ala, which may work, and it's not like he's setting the world on fire on the right, but just thinking about it sounds awkward.

The other solutions are moving Paquetá to the left mezz'alla, but then you lose that connection, or of course changing to a 4-2-3-1 with Paquetá roaming free behind a forward and Kessié fighting for a role deeper in miedfield.

I think we need to see more of Paqueta to determine whether he is best as a left or right CM in this formation. Rino's choice to play him there today may simply have been because he felt Hakan is better suited to the left than the right, whereas Paqueta has more of a natural ability to play his game on either side.

Paqueta's arrival does make it a bit difficult for Rino to know his best midfield. Bakayoko is staking a firm claim to a starting spot. Biglia when he returns could easily push Hakan and Kessie down the order, even though he's a different player to both (and this is where the 4-2-3-1 looks more favourable).
