Serie A MD 14 Milan-Parma 2/12 2018 12:30 CET

Milan begins the month of December with an early clash with Parma. The visitors are only 2 points behind Milan and have won 2 on the trot against Sassuolo and Torino. Milan, on the other hand, has 1 draw against Lazio and 1 loss against Juventus in the 2 last games. Despite only scoring 7 goals in the last 5 games, Milan is still fifth highest scoring side. Parma, on the other hand, has only scored 14 goals with 16 goals conceded. Historically this game is a high scoring affair, with the average being 4.10 goals in the last ten Serie A encounters between these sides. But I don't expect many goals today with the game being an early one, I think Milan especially usually plays badly in the early games.

The lineups are out:

MILAN (4-3-3): G. Donnarumma; Calabria, Abate, Zapata, Rodriguez; Kessié, Mauri, Bakayoko; Suso, Cutrone, Calhanoglu.
A disp.: Reina, A. Donnarumma, Conti, Laxalt, Simic, Brescianini, Bertolacci, Halilovic, Montolivo, Borini, Castillejo.
All.: Gattuso

PARMA (4-3-3): Sepe; Iacopini, Bruno Alves, Bastoni, Gagliolo; Grassi, Scozzarella, Barillŕ; Biabiany, Inglese, Gervinho.
A disp.: Frattali, Bagheria, Stulac, Deiola, Ceravolo, Ciciretti, Gobbi, Di Gaudio, Gazzola, Rigoni, Sprocati.
All.: D’Aversa

We're back at 4-3-3, but my guess is that it's because of Gattuso wanting to have more central midfielders because of that defense. Would've liked to see Castillejo start, he has been resting for a couple of games, but I guess Calhanoglu is going to drop back and provide some creativity to that midfield. I'm actually really curious to see that midfield and especially Mauri. It's not creative and flashy but at least it should be pretty effective at pressing Parma and protecting the defense and with a RB as the CB in this game that could be a good move.

Milan has only lost once this season at home and that was against Juventus, so my prediction is 1-0 to Milan. And considering how December looks for us:

Torino, Olympiakos (away), Bologna (away), Fiorentina, Frosinone (away), Spal

we really need to make use of the easier schedule and win basically all these games. A good start in December is so important in that regard.

FORZA MILAN!

And what if Mauri makes it, plays well, excels ... that will be a key for me in this game (after the mandatory 3 points of course).

Yeah, I've liked him in the preseason games so I always wondered why he never got a proper chance. I guess Gattuso liked his energy against Dudelange just as much as I did. Will be interesting indeed, he is the closest we have to Biglia in the squad right now.

He did well against Lazio to be fair. The only defender available is Simic and I would've liked to see him start, but Abate has deserved another shot at CB.

Conti is rumored to be ready for some minutes as well, looking forward to that as well.

Or RR and Laxhalt at LB. RR at least played that position in his career. Abate as CB is a disaster waiting to happen. Just remember how many goals he cost us as a right back.

None of them is a CD really and I rather trust The Serie A experience of Abate than RR, but both are a bad choice ... we have no options really.

Let's hope Gattuso knows what he's doing for a change.

He has? Well, then that's weird yeah. I guess Bono is right about Gattuso going for the Serie A experience.

My eyes would be on Mauri. Would love to see him step up. I always thought he wasn't given proper chance. But then that has always been the case in Milan re young players.

Parma have two pacy wingers in Biabiany and Gervinho.
I remember we signed Biabiany and in exchange Zaccardo didn't want to join them. Then we opted for Bona. Well, that was the only good thing done by Zaccardo.

Basically Parma is leaving the ball to us and defending with 11 behind the ball. And we don't know what to do with the ball. The crosses fail to connect Cutrone who always has 2 guys on him in the box.
We need to make changes in the 2nd half to our approach. I would but Castilejo on for Mauri and put Hakan behind Cutrone in a free roll.

What I remember is that Biabiany failed a medical. Heart issues.

We are pretty decent, I think, at least the first 30 min. Parma are defending very deep. But we need more people in the box for those crosses.

Milan was good in the first half, Parma are clearly set up for counterattacking and we were good at not giving them any chances.

Obviously they score now on a corner kick....
