Portuguese Liga 2011/12 - Scores, Table and Chat

The horrible 2010/11 season finally ended yesterday so let's start talking about the new one...

Copa América pode levar vinte «portugueses»
Competição sul-americana vai atrapalha pré-temporada

Por Ricardo Gouveia in MaisFutebol, 15.05.2011

F.C. Porto
Helton (Brasil)
Hulk (Brasil)
Alvaro Pereira (Uruguai)
Jorge Fucile (Uruguai)
Cristian Rodríguez (Uruguai)
Freddy Guarín (Colômbia)
Falcao (Colômbia)
James Rodríguez (Colômbia)
Belluschi (Argentina)
Otamendi (Argentina)
Iturbe (Argentina)

Benfica
Luisão (Brasil)
Maxi Pereira (Uruguai)
Salvio (Argentina)

André Carrillo (Perú)

Today finished Liga Orangina, the second tier of our football, and it is now clear who are the two teams replacing the relegated Portimonense and Naval 1o Maio in the top level of our football.

Gil Vicente are the Liga Orangina champions and the runners-up are Feirense. The team from Barcelos returns to Liga ZON Xixi for the first time since 2005/06 and the men from Santa Maria da Feira are back after having been away since 1989/90. Congratulations to both clubs.

On the other end of Liga Orangina the last day was an epic drama. Fátima (packed with "quality" loanees from Benfica) was relegated long ago but two classic sides of our football, Sporting da Covilhã and Varzim went to the last round with one point separating them knowing that one of them would go down to 2a Divisão this afternoon. Varzim was one point behind but at the 86th minute of their match away at Oliveirense they scored what looked like to be the saving goal....but...the Serra da Estrela Lions did not give up and scored, at the 94th minute of their game against Aves, the winner that kept them from being relegated. Congrats to them too!

A final note to celebrate a feat of one of my favourite teams: Atlético Clube de Portugal, the kings from Alcântara, were promoted today to Liga Orangina.

«FC Porto devia jogar com jogadores portugueses» -
Michel Platini critica excesso de estrangeiros

sexta-feira, 17 junho de 2011
in Record.pt

Sure, and then fight for 3rd place since most Portuguese players of "Porto quality" don't want to play in Portugal.

No thanks. I'll take titles. You can be proud of your Portuguese content with empty hands.

You didn't get the point of the article but that's hardly surprising. Winning through snatching is the name of your game.

i fully agree with platini , but thats not to blame on porto , braga or any other club

it's a consequence of the bosman law, which i disagree with from day 1

i really miss the days when playing against an english team was actually playing against an english team and so on

At our own league, u could only field 4 foreigners, and for the uefa games you had a 3 foreign players limit

Yes, you got the point and you're right. On top of it you are not ashamed of admiting it even if your club can be included in the lot of those that completely forgot about their responsibilities towards NT football. Benfica was always a team that was proud of keeping it's all Portuguese squad until late in the 70s and even after that (until the Bosman Law) kept always the tradition of giving priority to Portuguese players thus your prominence in the number of Portuguese internationals until the 90s. It's true that you've won the league last year thanks to the South American contingent but wouldn't have been much better to do it with a team based on Portuguese players? Your answer will obviously be yes because you Ana, on the contrary to the canadian bandwaggoner, like to win it with class and class is something that portistas only have heard about.

Copa América 2011 after all is not going to steal that many players from the top sides of our football, which proves that in spite of the quantity of South Americans that are now invading our top squads, their quality is still questionable.

Here's the final list:

FC Porto (4)
Alvaro Pereira (Uruguay)
Cristian Rodríguez (Uruguay)
Freddy Guarín (Colombia)
Falcao (Colombia)

Sporting (3)
Matías Fernández (Chile)
André Carrillo (Perú)
Alberto Rodríguez (Perú)

Benfica (2)
Luisão (Brazil)
Maxi Pereira (Uruguay)

Naval 1o Maio (1)
Edivaldo Bolívia (Bolívia)

So I watched Rio Ave-Braga yesterday, was not impressed at all by Braga.

I rate Jardim as a coach, but he has his work cut out for him. They spent very little on reinforcements this summer and he lost some key players, some to direct rivals while some left the country for more money.

He has an abundance of quality attacking mids/wingers in Alan, Mossoro, Barbosa, Pizzi, Ukra, etc. but the midfield looks poor. We'll see how they do as the team continues to gel.

Nacional/Feirense starts in 20 minutes, should be a decent game. I'm watching every game this weekend aside from Maritimo/Beira Mar which won't be on TV. So pumped up to have our football back. People can say what they want about the quality of our league, but I absolutely love it.

0-0 at HT for Nacional/Feirense.

Nacional obviously the better team with more fire power, but Feirense have had a bunch of corner kicks and look to take advantage of Nacional's somewhat weak defense.

A pretty open game with both teams looking for goal, so the second half should be a good one.

Paulo Lopes has been fantastic for Feirense, stopping everything sent at him. Another big save on Rondon now right after Nuno Pinto had his shot stopped.

Nacional really pouring it on with a few minutes left. I hope they find the goal.

0-0 final, Nacional and Feirense split the honors. Well done to both Gil Vicente and Feirense earning points in the first weekend.

Elsewhere, Beira Mar drew with Maritimo 0-0 and Pacos Ferreira head into half-time with a 1-0 lead over Vitoria Setubal. A Luisinho goal just before the break sees the yellow boys go in with the advantage.

A very traditional first round so far.

Traditionally the first round of our league is a very balanced one and the 5 draws out of 5 games (almost 6/6 with the current score in Setúbal) are here to prove it.

Benfica got caught by tradition failing to win, allowing a Laionel missile, and scoring an offside goal.

Sporting + Xistra =

Porto + Olegário =

Tradition.
