Wanted to start this thread already for a while but nothing is really clear to me yet... but I believe neither to the FAI...
There are some main issues though:
- Derry City have been thrown out the league for operating dual contracts with players, ie non declaring of wages, there may be a newly formed club from Derry operating in either the first division or A league but nothing confirmed yet as far as I know. They're hoping to join the First Division and made an application I believe.
- Cork City are still in massive financial problems and haven't received a license for 2010 as far as I know.
- Kildare City from the First division have been gone into liquidation and don't exist anymore.
It's unclear which clubs will form the Premier- and First Division and A Championship next season, but it seems it will be like this...
Premier Division
- Derry City won't play in the premier division and are relegated, they'll be replaced by UCD, the First Division champions.
- Bray Wanderers have lost the playoff from Sporting Fingal which means they'll go up.
That means the Premier Division probably will be formed by the following teams
- Bohemians (Dublin)
- Shamrock Rovers (Dublin)
- Cork City
if they get a license
- Dundalk
- Sligo Rovers
- St. Patrick's Athletic (Dublin)
- Galway United
- Drogheda United
- UCD (Dublin)
- Sporting Fingal (Santry/Dublin)
First Division
- Derry City and Bray are relegated, Derry applied for a license for this division, if they get one they'll restart here next season.
- Shamrock Rovers reserves and Salthill Devon won the two A Championships, Shamrock Rovers won the overall playoff but as reserve teams can't promote Salthill Devon took Kildare County's place. However also they need to get a license.
So far the First Division will be formed by the following teams.
- Bray Wanderers
- Derry City
if they get a license
- Shelbourne (Dublin)
- Waterford United
- Monaghan United
- Wexford Youths
- Limerick
- Finn Harps (Ballybofey)
- Longford Town
- Athlone Town
- Mervue United (Galway)
- Salthill Devon (Salthill/Galway)
if they get a license
That would mean two teams from Galway, while Galway United play in the Premier Division, Galway United and Mervue United both use Terryland Park as their home ground and also Salthill Devon probably will have to use that venue. Don't know if it's possible, three teams playing at one ground, Salthill could use their clubhouse ground too, here some pictures of that venue -->
http://www.salthilldevon.ie/dromphotos.asp would that be good enough for league football?
A Championship
Finally, the 3rd level of Irish football, no part of the LOI, but not less important, I'm not sure but I think the next teams will take part here next season.
- Non reserve teams: Castlebar Celtic, Cobh Ramblers, FC Carlow, Tralee Dynamos and Tullamore Town.
- Reserve teams from: Drogheda Utd, Finn Harps, Derry City (?), Dundalk, Sligo Rovers, Galway Utd, Shamrock Rovers, Bohemians, Bray Wanderers, Sporting Fingal, Cork City (?) & St. Pat's Athletic.
The license deadline was last week friday so let's hope there will be more information soon.
Fixtures should be released somewhere in February usually...
