Babcock says that to make the trade sound better but it's not true. The Raptors really didn't save any money from the trade. Eric and Aaron still haven't expired and the Zo buyout was handled terribly, saving us very little money. With or without the trade, we'd still have a similar cap situation and enough to sign Calderon, who was a relatively cheap signing.

I would love to know what Bosh is thinking after openly hearing Phil Jackson's comments.
Many people seek after what they do not possess and are thus enslaved by the very things they want to acquire.

Hopefully it didn't phase him. Cuz IMO this Toronto team will surpass the Lakers soon. They're young, and are starting to gel. Imagine what they'll be a couple years down when they have Magloire too.
I just hope he stays. Camby, Damon S., T-Mac, Vince.. And these are just the all-stars we lost, not to mention how we can't hold on other great players. I just hope the trend doesn't continue

Raps currently on a 3-game winning streak going into tonite's home game against Orlando.
We should be able to win this game, but it'll be tough. Not to mention that Villaneuva will have to show up to tonite unlike against Atlanta.
These guys have to bring some intensity at the start of games, especially on the defensive end.
Wonder how Araujo will do after last nite's horrible performance against the Hawks. Seeing how he plays even worse at home than away, it could get ugly.

Toronto should trade Araujo for some balls and a net. This would open up a contributing job for Loren Wood where he could easily collect balls and stash them in the net during practice or shoot arounds.

Did anyone catch what the heck Norma Wick was sputtering on about during the Orlando game? She started talking about Mike James being from Amityville, NY then went on to compare the Raptors game to the movie...mass murder, killing, murdering everybody in the house...it was too bizarre.
Swirsky was really confused and Jack Armstrong just went quiet. No doubt thinking, "What the F is this broad talking about?"

All I know is that we absolutely slaughtered Orlando last night. We can make play-offs. Only 5 games back

Well, I wouldn't get too excited.
Should be interesting to see what happens tonite against Houston. They still have some injury problems, but Rafer is now back. Anyways, this is gonna be a tough one, but hopefully Bosh can have another big game after he was rested during most of the Orlando demolition.

Yeah what was that all about? i saw Peterson get ejected and it was suppose to be a friendly slap on both parts that ref should be ashamed for making that call and Carter should have talked to the ref about it now laugh like it was some kind of a joke. I cant stand Carter right now... at one point i loved his dunks and he was one player i just loved to watch no matter what the Raptors record was.

I'm guessing there was a lot of pressure put on Richard Peddie, with the attendence dropping greatly the last few games. So he reacted and fired Rob Babcock, probably thinking it would be a move that the fanbase would support. Hopefully the Raptors don't cheap out and get an experienced GM for the first time (and Peddie gets fired).
Can't say I didn't call this firing before

New Interm-GM Wayne Embry made a good deal today.
Sent PF/C Aaron Williams to New Orleans for two 2nd Rnd draft picks (one for 2006 draft, the other for 2009 draft).
Great move as Aaron Williams was coming off the cap anyways and this way we gets draft picks in return + the cap space.
Eric Williams is also expected to be dealt before the deadline...

Another day, another deal by the Raptors.
TO TORONTO:
PF/C: Antonio Davis
TO NEW YORK:
SG/SF: Jalen Rose
1st Rnd Pick Denver 2006
$3m
Good move by the Raps. Seems Davis will report and he can't really complain since he'll only be around for a few months. This deal was basically a swap of contracts. Both Rose and Davis are basically making the same amount but Davis' contract expires this summer while Rose has another year. Therefore, Toronto will save a lot of money which in turn can be used to re-sign Bosh to a max deal, re-sign Mike James and pick up a good free-agent or two. The 1st Rnd Pick from Denver given up in the deal is basically worth nothing anyways as this draft is supposedly not going to be that deep at all and Denver have been playing quite well as of late, so, if they were to make the play-offs that pick would be out of the lottery. (late 1st Rnd pick).
Perhaps E.Williams will be dealt before the deadline too, but I'm guessing someone would have to come back in return as Toronto is running low on players who can play the 2 and 3 positions.
PG: James/Calderon
SG: Peterson/Graham
SF: Villanueva/E.Williams
PF: Bosh/Bonner
C: Davis/Sow/Araujo/Woods
I wouldn't be suprised if Araujo gets sent down to the D-league where he belongs once he gets healthy.

Raptors' Salary Situation in the offseason:
Assumptions:
- Alvin Williams retires (and his contract is taken off the cap)
- Mike James opts out
- Eric Williams opts out or is traded
Salaries:
Morris Peterson - $ 5 454 545
Alonzo Mourning - $ 4 496 541
Chris Bosh - $ 4 235 000
Charlie Villanueva - $ 2 537 880
Rafael Araujo - $ 2 395 200
Jose Calderon - $2 190 000
Matt Bonner - $ 2 076 923
Joey Graham - $ 1 492 440
Pape Sow - $ 744 551
Total - $ 25 623 080
Add in $3-5M for our draft pick and bringing over Ukic and Slokar.
We're in a very desirable situation. The salary cap last year was $50M and it's expected to go higher this year. So basically we have $20-30M to spend this summer depending how much over the salary cap (if at all) we want to be. Things are looking much better that's for sure.
