Levante step up Forlan chase
by Patrick Goss - Last Updated 5 Aug 2004
Spanish press are insisting that Levante are far from ready to give up their quest to prise Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan from Premiership side Manchester United.
Levante are targeting Forlan for the forthcoming season, and the striker's confession that he wants to remain at Old Trafford appears not to have dented their desire.
Levante are prepared to pay around Ģ2.2 million for the forward, who they view as a good investment for the future.
The media have suggested that the last three days has seen Levante step up their negotiations for the player.
Levante have made Forlan the focal point of their transfer market this summer, but also launched a cheeky bid for Newcastle icon Alan Shearer.
The chances of landing Forlan are much greater - and it remains to be seen if the Uruguay international is sold on by his Premiership club.
Meanwhile, Quinton Fortune has been called up into the South Africa to face Tunisia on August 18.

What a fantastic team!! Schuster is doing a great job with this squad. When I go to Valčncia, I feel how proud the "granotas" are over Valencia CF.
There are several players who are doing very well as Manchev, Sergio García or Nacho, but I'd like to menction Ettien. This guy should have played in Primera since long ago and now he's showing his class.
Schuster proves that you can do good football with a humble squad. Good job, Bernd!

This win today will surely lift there hopes! they are more confident and surely wont fear playing any other major sides any more, since this match proved to them that they are capable of beating big teams.

Imagine? This was where Forlán was before he came to La Liga...
Anyway, thanks granotas!

Yeah I saw that, imagine if it transpired, he would have simply disappeared. Now, many goals and a Golden Ball later, one can safely say that he made the right choices.
Thanks to our neighbours again!
I'd also like to take credit for this epic bump.

After some bad scores lately they recover with a 4-0 trashing against Sporting.
Levante is still 4th, only 2 points behind Barcelona, with 13 games played. Impressive!

Levante beat Betis 3-1 today and keep the 4th spot.
I thought they would decline but they're still there, I wonder how much time they can handle this.

Really hope they don't get the 4th CL spot. Its a nice Cinderella story and all but they just would be way out of their depth and i doubt they could even make it to the group stages. La Liga needs a strong showing in the CL next season after Villarreal's embarrassing campaign this season so im hoping Atletico, Sevilla, Athletic or Malaga get that spot, just not Levante with their lack of funds.

I agree with you, in any case I think they will get a EL place at best.

Yeah, agree with this.
Look at their starting lineup and how old it really is on average;
Munua (34)
Venta (36) Ballesteros (36) del Horno (31) Juanfran (35)
Farinos (33) Iborra (24)
Valdo (30) Barkero (32) Juanlu (31)
A. Kone (28)
This team would have little to no chance of doing anything in the CL. In fact, I'm amazed that they have been able to keep a top four spot in the league for 25 rounds now. They deserve a lot of credit for it, whether or not they keep the position.

Levante ends 6th after defeating Athletic 3-0 in the last round and will play in Europe next season
It's been the best season of the granotas in their history. Congrats!
