Liga Polska 04/05
The Polish Ekstraklasa starts in ten days' time. Its level may be far from excellence, but it usually produces some excitement for Polish fans
Interesting fact is that not all decisions regarding its formula has been made up to the moment. Initially, the PZPN supported the idea of having only one team of fourteen demoted after the season ends. However, stronger clubs are pointing out (and they are right!) that it doesn't make much sense because there will be too many irrelevant games in spring. The federation has also been critcized by the media. Eventually, there will be one more debate next week and a final decision is to be made then.
This season we have:
Amica Wronki. A lot of changes in this club. Some key players (Dawidowski, Zienczuk, Djokovic) left and younger generation will have their chance now. Should be very close to top, although I don't think they'll be as good as last season. To watch: Bieniuk, Dudka, Burkhardt, Kryszalowicz - and... coach Skorza.
Cracovia Krakow. A newly promoted team, but they have money and ambition. I see them somewhere in the middle.
Dyskobolia Grodzisk Wielkopolski. Last season was eventually a flop, but it may have some beneficial effect now (they'll focus on league solely). A lot of good players, they're willing to fight for championship. To watch: Liberda, Mila, Radzewicz, Slusarski, Sikora.
Gks Katowice. Miraculously saved last season. May not be that lucky this time.
Gornik Leczna. The spring round was a hard landing for them. Hired a few experienced players and coach Kaczmarek now, which means they want to be a hard nut to crack.
Gornik Zabrze. Kozminski is consistently trying out his idea of promoting talented (?!) youngsters from Poland and abroad in a team playing in top division. They don't have ambition to compete for Eurocups, but should stay far from relegation zone. To watch: Kuzera, Piotr Brozek, Bukowiec.
Lech Poznan. One of the most unpredictable teams in Ekstraklasa. Bunch of decent players, and a very talented coach. To watch: Mowlik, Golinski, Madej, Reiss, Nawrocik.
Legia Warszawa. The new owner doesn't promise deposing Wisla at once, but fans hope for a successful championship bid. Or a good fight at least. To watch: Boruc, Jarzebowski, Karwan, Saganowski, Wlodarczyk, Korzym.
Odra Wodzislaw. Lost a lot of blood, but most likely there still will be teams weaker than them. To watch: Zganiacz, Maslowski.
Pogon Szczecin. Seems to be the strongest of the teams promoted from the 2nd division. To watch: Batata, Terlecki, Kazmierczak.
Polonia Warszawa. Have been fighting desperately to avoid relegation for a few seasons. Now they hope that with Engel on board the worst is over. To watch: Kus, Olszar.
Wisla Krakow. Their owners invested a lot of money not in order to win one championship after another in Poland (which they see as a must), but to achieve something in Europe. The starting eleven speaks for itslef: Majdan - Mijajlovic (Stolarczyk), Glowacki, Klos, Baszczynski - Zienczuk, Kukielka, Szymkowiak, Uche (Dawidowski) - Zurawski, Frankowski (Kuzba).
Wisla Plock. The team has been improving for some time and a further progress is expected now. Uefa Cup spot is their aim. To watch: Gevorgyan, Rachwal, Jelen, Klimek.
Zaglebie Lubin. The third of the promoted teams. A puzzle to be solved after first few games. To watch: Bartczak, Zytko, Lobodzinski.

Wisla Krakow - Gornik Leczna 5-1 (2-1)
Wisla didn't look good in the first thirty minutes, but then the goal scoring machine started to work.
Gks Katowice - Lech Poznan 0-3 (0-1)
Wisla Plock - Gornik Zabrze 0-0
Pogon Szczecin - Legia Warszawa 1-2 (1-1)
Legia's poor defending could have resulted in a loss in Szczecin, but Pogon players managed to miss unbeliavable chances
Odra Wodzislaw - Amica Wronki 1-2 (1-2)
Zaglebie Lubin - Cracovia Krakow 2-5 (0-4)
The ease with which Cracovia won this game was amazing. Are they going to be a suprising team of this season?...
Polonia Warszawa - Groclin Grodzisk Wlkp. postponed
Code:
1. Wisla Kraków 3 5-1
2. Cracovia 3 5-2
3. Lech Poznań 3 3-0
4. Amica Wronki 3 2-1

Madaric played with Varteks where Besek managed last season before gettin sacked. I read somewhere on a Croatian sports website that he was going to bring in many Croatian players but he failed to do so.
Also, has Udarevic signed for a Polish club? He played for Osijek and some Croatian second division clubs but he went to a club in Poland for trial and I haven;t heard of him since then!

Good start by our "export" teams. Good in terms of achieved results because overal performance can't be satisfying yet. Especially Legia disappointed me greatly. Kubicki's conservativeness would annoy me if I was Legia fan. He is so confident in e.g. Jozwiak. It's he who provokes most of the lost goals and "Kuba" seems not to see "Beret's" obvious mistakes (ok, today's penalty was soft but I would have got rid of him a long time ago for the ensemble). By the way, I can't believe Terlecki has found another employer in the premier league
Cracovia is my candidate for the black horse. They have some really interesting players, in general somewhat anonymous, but presumably of high abilities.
As a result of the departure of 7 players for the international game, Lech aren't optimally prepared to the season. It didn't prevent us from winning in Katowice. Golinski scored an excellent free kick goal. He denies having led the negotiations with Legia but in spite of this he won't be so respected in Poznan anymore. In my opinion, GKS will most probably get relagated.
False start in Plock. Scoreless draw with Gornik isn't a good result for the local team which, according to its chairman, will fight for the ultimate win.
Amica won 3 points in Wodzislaw and it's a nice debut from Maciej Skorza, Ekstraklasa's youngest coach. Odra will struggle this season but there are still a few teams that are worse.
What about Wisla Krakow - I'm waiting for the moment when they will learn at last how to defend properly

Matchday 2
Gornik Leczna - Cracovia Kraków 3-1 (1-0)
A cold shower for Cracovia.
Odra Wodzislaw - Zaglebie Lubin 1-2 (0-0)
Rather a surprising result. Zaglebie managed to recover very quickly.
Amica Wronki - Legia Warszawa 1-1 (0-1)
Very lucky Legia to escape with that draw...
Gornik Zabrze - Pogon Szczecin 4-0 (0-0)
Four goals within last fifteen minutes
Lech Poznan - Wisla Plock 4-2 (2-0)
A very disappoining start of the season for Wisla. Their strikers (Jelen, Klimek, Sobczak - all names well respected in Polish football) have huge problems due to not receiving good passes from midfield.
Groclin Grodzisk - GKS Katowice 3-2 (1-2)
Wisla Krakow - Polonia Warszawa 4-0 (0-0)
A red card for Udarevic.
Matchday 3
Polonia Warszawa - Gornik Leczna 1-0 (0-0)
GKS Katowice - Wisla Krakow 0-3 (0-2)
Zurawski scores his 100th goal in the Ektraklasa.
Wisla Płock - Groclin Grodzisk 0-1 (0-0)
Pogon Szczecin - Lech Poznan 3-1 (1-1)
A strange game. It seemed as if Lech underestimated Pogon. Having been a better team in the first half, and with the hosts down to ten men, Lech should've won it easily.
Amica Wronki - Gornik Zabrze 1-1 (1-0)
Legia Warszawa - Zagłębie Lubin 0-0
Cracovia Krakow - Odra Wodzislaw 2-3 (1-1)
Cracovia created pretty lot of scoring chances, but paid for their vulnerability in defence...
Code:
1 Wisla Krakow 9 12-1
2 Lech Poznan 6 8-5
3 Groclin Grodzisk 6 4-2
4 Gornik Zabrze 5 5-1
5 Legia Warszawa 5 3-2
6 Amica Wronki 5 4-3
7 Zaglebie Lubin 4 4-6
8 Cracovia Krakow 3 8-8
9 Odra Wodzislaw 3 5-6
10 Gornik Leczna 3 4-7
11 Pogon Szczecin 3 4-7
12 Polonia Warszawa 3 1-4
13 Wisla Plock 1 2-5

Matchday 4
Gornik Leczna - Odra Wodzislaw 1:2
Both teams are actually on a similar level. Odra were more lucky that evening, or just smarter.
Legia Warszawa - Cracovia Krakow 2:1
Cracovia plays really entertaining, open football. They lack experience though, that’s why they lost third game in a row. The presence of Citko and Swierczewski in their rostermay help them avoid losing points in an infantile way.
Gornik Zabrze - Zaglebie Lubin 1:1
Gornik should’ve won it, but they wasted too many chances.
Lech Poznan - Amica Wronki 0:4
Lech outclassed. What’s happening with this team? Two spectacular goals from Marcin Kikut – Amica’s right midfielder. A new talent in Polish football?
Groclin Grodzisk - Pogon Szczecin 2:0
Tough game, but Groclin’s victory well deserved.
Wisla Krakow - Wisla Płock 4:0
Half an hour was enough to demolish Plock. Wisla breakes one record of unbeaten games on the home ground after the other…
Polonia Warszawa - GKS Katowice 2:0
Gks are really poor. Unless they start winning league games soon (highly unlikely), they will find themselves in the second division long before the end of season.
Code:
1.Wisla Krakow 12 16-1
2.Groclin Grodzisk 9 6-2
3.Legia Warszawa 8 5-3
4.Amica Wronki 8 8-3
5.Gornik Zabrze 6 6-2
6.Odra Wodzislaw 6 7-7
7.Lech Poznan 6 8-9
8.Polonia Warszawa 6 3-4
9.Zaglebie Lubin 5 5-7
10.Gornik Leczna 3 5-9
11.Pogon Szczecin 3 4-9
12.Cracovia Krakow 3 9-10
13.Wisla Plock 1 2-9
14.GKS Katowice 0 2-11

Matchday 5
Cracovia Krakow - Gornik Zabrze 0:0
A boring game. The only interesting part of it was Marek Citko playing final thirty minutes for Cracovia. Still pleasure to watch some of his tricks.
Wisla Plock - Polonia Warszawa 4:1
An excellent display by Jelen, who scored thrice for Plock. The score doesn't tell the whole truth, for it was a really tough game. Too bad the ref spolit it (unfair penalty against Polonia, and Polonia's goal disallowed for no apparent reason).
Gks Katowice - Gornik Leczna 4:0
A shocker in some way. Leczna have a very disappointing start.
Zaglebie Lubin - Lech Poznan 2:0
Lech are in serious trouble. Problems both in defence and attack. Golinski's magnificent form has vanished.
Odra Wodzislaw - Legia Warszawa 0:1
A game full of scoring chances. It could go the other way round, luckily didn't
Amica Wronki - Groclin Grodzisk Wlkp. 1:3
Groclin still on 100% record. A very convincing victory.
Pogon Szczecin - Wisla Krakow 0:5
Incredible. only five games of the season have gone and Frankowski scored ten goals already Wisla seem to be a team from another dimension, although frankly speaking they haven't been seriously tested so far.
Code:
1. Wisla Krakow 15 21-1
2. Groclin Grodzisk 12 9-3
3. Legia Warszawa 11 6-3
4. Amica Wronki 8 9-6
5. Zaglebie Lubin 8 7-7
6. Gornik Zabrze 7 6-2
7. Odra Wodzislaw 6 7-8
8. Lech Poznan 6 8-11
9. Polonia Warszawa 6 4-8
10. Cracovia Krakow 4 9-10
11. Wisla Plock 4 6-10
12. Gks Katowice 3 6-11
13. Gornik Leczna 3 5-13

Legia Warszawa - Pogon Szczecin 3:0
An easy victory for Legia.
Wisla Krakow - Gks Katowice 1:0
Wisla weren't really troubled, but it's surprising that they managed to score only once.
Groclin Grodzisk - Polonia Warszawa 5:0
Terrible defending by Polonia. When you mark strikers like that, you can't expect anything but such defeat.

18th round
Groclin - Amica 4:0
Ślusarski 39' 42' Sikora 76' Sokołowski 82'
Big derby of Wielkopolska and giant win by Groclin. I expected thet Groclin will win this match, but 4-0 is a beating. This match can solve the matter who will play in UEFA Cup.
Górnik Łęczna - GKS 4:2
Szałachowski 49' Kubica 72' Wędzyński 83' Bronowicki 88' - Kmiecik 77' Markowski 87'
Bogusław Kaczmarek build good team in Łęczna and he's gonna to escape relegation without doubt. GKS playd with big ambition, but they'r relegation is sure.
Górnik Zabrze - Cracovia 1:0
Chałbiński 55'
2 teams with great and rich history playd in this match. Górnik lucky won and has still 1 match less then rivals. Dissapointment for Cracovia, as they could beat Groclin, Odra in away match and draw with Wisła. CHałbiński showed once again his great talent, wich he showed also in Odra some years ago.
Lech Poznań - Zagłębie Lubin 2:0
Scherfchen 41' Reiss 51'
At least won of Lech, hovever on the 20.000 stadium wich is usually full, was only 9.000 crowd. It shows that Lech fans are dissapinted, as Lech before the season was favorite to highest positions.
Polonia - Wisła Płock 1:4
Jakosz 74' - Jeleń 29' 76' Peković 57' Gevorgyan 87'
Polonia, wich has big financial problems, lost to one of the richest clubs in Idea Ekstraklasa. Jeleń showed that he is one of the best strikers in our league.

Wisła Kraków - Pogoń Szczecin 1:1
Frankowski 89' - Claudio Milar 26'
Big upset for Wisła, espacially because they beat Pogoń in away match 5-0, and now they hardly made draw. Milar showed his genius another time. Hovever wisła has still 8 points advantage over Groclin.
Legia - Odra Wodzisław 0:1
Woś 54'
Giantic suck for Legia. Odra, who lost 0-5 and 0-1 in last matches made a sensation on Łazienkowska. With this match Legia totally lost chances for championschip.
