Your Euro 2004 squad ( be realistic!)

It's a 22 men squad right?

Ok here's mine:

Andreas Isaksson
Magnus Hedman ( baldy is #2)
Eddie Gustafsson

Olof Mellberg
Michael Svensson
Teddy Lucic ( unfortunately he's the best we have on that position)
Erik Edman
Mikael Dorsin
Andreas Jakobsson
Daniel Majstorovic

Fredrik "Injury prune" Ljungberg
Tobias Linderoth
Johan Arneng( backup for Linderoth)
Kim Källström
Andreas Johansson
Mikael Nilsson
Kennedy Bakirciouglu
Anders Svensson

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Mattias Jonson
Johan Elmander
Niklas Skoog

No Allbäck, heäs invivisble for the whole game anyway. I like hardworking players

Greatest team possible IMO

Think my team will be pretty similar to yours Nick but I´ll give u my team now:

Goalkeepers:

Andreas Isaksson
Mattias Asper
Dead call between Sundford, Eddie and Hedman

Defenders:

Olof Mellberg
Michael Svensson
Erik Edman
Mikael Dorsin
Cristoffer Andersson
Andreas Jakobsson
Lucic
(Schlebrügge)

Midfield:

Freddie Ljungberg
Anders Svensson
Kim Källström
Mikael Nilsson
Andreas Johansson
Johan Arneng
Linderoth
Pontus Farnerud
(Grahn or Kennedy)

Forwards:

Zlatan
Mattias Jonson
Johan Elmander
Niklas Skoog
(Babis Stefanidis)

People in ( ) are players who I at the moment don´t think has a place in the team for Euro 2004 but perhaps in time might be fit for it.

Comments on the decisions:

Goalkeepers:

Isaksson numero uno! Nothing to add there. Would really like to leave Hedman out of the team completely. He´s not getting younger and I think it would be better to give 2 other guys the chance instead. Asper has done a great season in Malmö and I think he deserves a new chance acctually. Sundfors might not have been that lucky this season so I´m not sure who should get the third spot.

Defenders:

Like Nick mentioned unfortunately we don´t have many players on the right defender position. Edman has done a good job on the left side so Dorsin will have a hard time getting past him. That´s why I left Schlebrügge out of the team since we allready have 2 good players on his position. Otherwise it would be interesting to see how he could handle playing for the NT. I´m almost sure though that if he goes to Leicester or any other team out in Europe he will get a spot in the NT
I would like to see Cristoffer Andersson on the right position instead of Lucic although I´m almost sure that won´t happen. Hopefully he will go to another team(DIF perhaps) after this season and continue to develop then I would choose him anyday ahead of Lucic.

Midfield:

Really hope that Kim will get to play more than he has so far. Dunno what I think of Linderoth at the moment. I suppose he has to be in the team but I´m not sure if I like it. Acctually some options on each position here so this looks pretty ok. I don´t think that Kennedy at the moment deserves a spot in the NT. Perhaps if he goes to a new club after the season or gets back to his old qualities he might be considered though.

Forwards:

Zlatan will hopefully be fit and then I think he for sure should be a starter. Elmander has started his season in Holland great with 3 goals so far if I´m not mistaken. He should for sure be in the NT if this continues. Babis is an outsider who should be considered if he can stay out of injuries.

I will probably make a lot of changes until the Summer 2004 but these are the guys I think at the moment should be a part of the team

Since I am a bit bored at the moment(trying to decide if I should sleep for a couple of hours before the women´s match or not) I have now taken out my own Swedish NT for non-Swedes playing in Allsvenskan:

GK:

Ante Covic

Defenders:

Joseph Elanga
Toni Kuivasto
Tomas Zvirgzdauskas
Jon Inge Höiland

Midfield:

Derek Boateng
Pa-Modou Kah
Karl-Oskar Fjörtoft

Forwards:

Peter Ijeh
Geert den Ouden
Paulinho Guara

Subs: Kenny Stamatopoulos(GK), Atiba Hutchinson, Mikkel Jensen, Igor Sypniewski, Afonso Alves

A friendly against our NT perhaps?

Good post Marie

I totally forgot about Christoffer Andersson, actually he could be in the team, he's a exellent wing back. And as you also said, His Contract end after this season and hopefully he'll join the right club..... Von SchleBrügge is good, he plays on the other flank though, but if he joins Leichester everything is possible

Linderoth came from nowhere,(Staebeck) and got a spot in the NT, now he's been injured but i believe he's back now, but Arneng is better Imo, just that Lars-Tommy have yet to discover that.

Babis is a future player for sure, but after that Injury he's been worse and now he's injured again. But he'll be back fit and strong. I also would like to mention a guy that grew up near to me, Stefan Ishizaki, great player, watch out in Wc 2006 if we go there!

This is a preliminary team from me too, we might see some minor changes, it depends on what happens the latest half year

Interesting! So I guess he's sort of a profile in Allsvenskan?

Could anyone give their 2 cents about Mikkel "Zinedine" Jensen and his performance hinsidan - please?

Hi, guys!

I actually think it will be a 23 man squad. At least that's how it was in the World Cup...

Goalkeepers:

Andreas Isaksson
Magnus Hedman
John Alvbåge

Isaksson has established himself as the first choice. Hedman has been beginning to find his old form lately, and with his experience he will make a good backup for Isaksson. For the third spot I picked John Alvbåge who has been very good for ÖSK this season, primarily to watch and learn.

Defenders:

Olof Mellberg
Michael Svensson
Andreas Jakobsson
Daniel Majstorovic
Christoffer Andersson
Alexander Östlund
Erik Edman
Mikael Dorsin

I want four central defenders and four real full-backs. Mellberg, Svensson and Jakobsson are obvious. My fourth choice is Majstorovic due to him being six years younger than Johan Mjällby. Right back is one of our weaker positions. Lucic has done a decent job but I want full-backs with more techinical skill. Andersson has played more left midfielder than right defender in HIF this season and Östlund lacks some defensive ability, but I still choose them over Lucic. Edman and Dorsin feels like clear choices for left back.

Midfield:

Anders Svensson
Kim Källström
Tobias Linderoth
Mikael Nilsson
Fredrik Ljungberg
Pontus Farnerud
Tobias Grahn
Jesper Blomqvist

Midfield could be our big problem. I can't really find eight players that feel like natural picks. Källström and Svensson would be my starting pair in central midfield with Källström taking the more defensive roll. Ljungberg on the left side and Nilsson on the right completes the line-up. Linderoth is backup for Källström and Nilsson can also play in the centre. The remaining three spots were hard to fill. I chose Farnerud mostly on past performances. I haven't seen Grahn much, but what I've seen has been very impressive. Blomqvist isn't really national team material right now, but if he's healthy and in form he could very well take a spot. I didn't include Andreas Johansson since there really is no place for him in a 4-4-2 formation. Kennedy hasn't been good enough this season to be included.

Forwards:

(Henrik Larsson)
Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Niklas Skoog
Marcus Allbäck
Johan Elmander

I guess we can't count on Henrik Larsson changing his mind, so we'll have to do without him. I think Zlatan and Skoog are the two best players individually right now, but they're both big and strong target player types. We might need more pace which could open an opportunity for Elmander. I have also included Allbäck, because when he's in good form he is the best striker we have.

Mjällby for his leadershipqualities and winning mentally. C.Andersson is poor at defending and as a winger he is mediocre, but at least as a wingback he offers something...offers quite alot in the attacking actually. He make a option on the bench, but as a the starter i prefer Mikael Nilsson , he is a better defender.
He started out as a wingback last season.

Lucic is simply not a option anymore, he cant be after his recent performances. Ok i can stand a somewhat skilless wingback if he is a great defender, but Lucic`s defending havent even been decent the last couple of games, its been downrigth awfull.

midfield

Zetterberg
Anders Svensson
Ljungberg
Mikael Nilsson
Pontus Farnerud

-

Some of theese guys

Alexander Farnerud
Källström
Stefanidis
Eldrin Karisik
Wilhelmsson (anderlecht)
eh...another defensive midfielder
Blomqvist

Zetterberg already scored 5 goals in 7 games in Anderlecht, he will provide neccesary experience IF! he can settle for a spot on the bench ofcourse
ishizaki and Kennedy - decent talent and exremly poor mentally. There are plenty of better players

Farnerud and Stefanidis for a example are much more skilled and faster if you want a winger kind of player, specially Farnerud.

If you want a more of a playmakrer kind (ishizaki) then karisik is classes better. Much more mature and smarter despite being younger. Have you ever seen Kennedy or Ishizaki boss a game, even in allsvenskan? mediocre and overhyped like crazy.

Same have to bee said about Andreas Johansson. Average skil and poor mentally. he offers nothign and liek already mentioned he cant play in that 442 formation. he havent had one single good game for the nt and its so annoying seeing him being given after chance when there is alot more talanted players out there.

We have plenty of options of wingers now, its a shame there still arnt any in the squads that are presented anymore...the last winger that was tried out was Kennedy....

Wilhelmsson, Stefanidis, Farnerud some of them must be given a chance imo.

Forwards:

Larsson
Zlatan
Skoog
Allbäck

-

Elmander
Jonson

I agree with Yalle that Allbäck is the best STRIKER when on form, he is the guy with biggest eye for a goal, but he is also awfully inconsistant and i agree with nick, frankly quite lazy, just as Zlatan. Once again best striker perhaps, but imo Defintatly not the best "forvad". Both Zlatan and Larsson are much, much better.
Altough i dont think much of him Elmander, he already has a really good scoring ratio in Holland...perhaps he could make the squad...

About Jensen i think he fills his role verey well as a cleaner of the midfield.( in a otherwise offensive midfield) But i also think he looks limited when it comes to his passing. Isnt capable of hitting passes over longer distances. ( specially not above the ground).

It's ment to be funny, my friend.

The Brøndby fans began to call him this, because he was so poor at being the so called playmaker on the midfield, so you can see it's nothing but irony, here.

The Magic thing is totally serious though.
