Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League

Arsenal
Inter
Dynamo Kyiv
Lokomotive Moscow

A very tough draw for Dynamo. Arsenal and Inter are huge favorites and Lokomotive are no push overs as they just showed by eleminating Shakhtar. In the best case scenario I can see Dynamo taking one point from Inter(we always strugle against Italians), 3 or 4 points from Arsenal(we ussualy play well against English teams) and probably 3 or 4 points from Lokomotive. That would give us 8 or 9 points and a very good chance to get the second place. It's going to be very difficult to get that as both Arsenal and Inter are top teams on the continent.

Thanks Bentex! Bodnar is in conflict with a coaching staff. I haven't heard about him lately, I think he is looking for a new team.

Dynamo Kyiv-Lokomotiv Moscow 2-0
[Rincon 83', Rincon 90' ]

A good result for Dynamo in front of a frantic 80000 fans. It was a very tough game, both teams had chances to score but at the end Rincon saved the day scoring two nice goals, especialy the first one. Also great performances by Belkevich (as always, still a great playmaker and by far Kyiv's best player) and Shovkovsky.

MIKHAILICHENKO: "DYNAMO AREN'T LOOKING TO GET A 0-0 DRAW"
Monday, 29 September 2003 21:07:46
MILAN - After the 2-0 victory over Lokomotiv, Dynamo Kiev coach Mikhailichenko can afford to approach tomorrow night's Champions League Group B match away to Inter with a certain tranquillity.

"Inter are a great team with a great squad and excellent individualities," said Mikhailichenko at the pre-match press conference. "I like and fear their game, a game which changes when they play on their own pitch.

"Dynamo aren't looking to get a 0-0 draw, it's not in our mentality to think about defending.

"I'm asking my team to carry out the tactic we have elaborated to face Inter. What is it? You'll see it on the pitch."

Champions League Preview: Inter v Dynamo Kiev
Inter - Dinamo Kiev | Latest News | Match Preview | News Archive

Inter's Oba Martins (Getty Images)
09/29/2003. BACKGROUND

Just how much will Inter's hard-fought 0-0 draw with Udinese have taken out of them as they prepare to face Dynamo Kiev at the San Siro?

The game was ruined from the 17th minute onwards when the referee decided to give Luciano a red card for a fairly innocuous challenge from behind. A booking at most.

But the Nerazzurri rolled their sleeves up and battled for a fine point in a stadium where many teams will leave with nothing this season. Javier Zanetti put in an inspirational display and indeed almost won it for Hector Cuper's side late on when his shot from distance thudded against the post.

The Inter captain is in positive mood going into this match: "It will be difficult because in the Champions League it's always difficult. You can't trust anyone in football, we'll play our match and they'll play theirs. If we're in form we'll win."

The jury is still out on exactly what Inter can achieve this season. Since the superb 3-0 win over Arsenal, 'The Lions of Highbury' have drawn 0-0 against Sampdoria and Udinese. Suffice to say that had Christian Vieri been playing in those matches, the Nerazzurri would surely not have fired two blanks. And that may prove a problem as the season wears on. A dependence on Vieri. Mohamed Kallon, Oba Martins and Alvaro Recoba are all talented individuals, but surely none are capable of finding the net 20 times in a season as the departed Hernan Crespo was.

Dynamo made a winning start to their Champions League campaign when two late efforts from Diogo Rincon saw them beat Lokomotiv Moscow 2-0.

They'll surely adopt a defensive approach to this game, with a result of any kind being viewed as a bonus.

LATEST TEAM NEWS

Inter: Vieri has not recovered from injury in time and will not feature. Adani is set to step in for Materazzi who injured a leg muscle in the Udinese game. Kily Gonzalez may return.

Dynamo: Jerko Leko and Rincon (the hero of the Lokomotiv game) are both doubtful with injuries. The latter has a muscle problem and may not play.

PROBABLE LINE-UPS

Inter: Toldo; Javier Zanetti, Cannavaro, Adani, Córdoba; van der Meyde, Cristiano Zanetti, Emre, Kily González; Martins, Julio Cruz

Dinamo: Shovkovskyi; Dmytrulin, Gavrancic, Fedorov, Nesmachniy; Husyev, Ghioane, Leko o Rincon, Peev; Belkevich, Shatskikh.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Oba Martins (Inter): the Nigerian really turned it on against Arsenal, and Cuper will be hoping for a repeat performance here.

Diogo Rincon (Dynamo): if he plays Rincon will surely need to be watched closely following his two goals last time out.

Champions' League Phase One, Gp B - 30/9/03
Inter 2 - 1 Dynamo Kiev
Adani 23 (I), Fedorov 34 (D), Vieri 90 (I)
San Siro

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christian Vieri made a stunning comeback to score a last-minute winner against tough customers Dynamo Kiev.

The Nerazzurri could build on their 3-0 victory at Highbury and with Arsenal's earlier 0-0 draw in Moscow another positive result would put the San Siro side in a commanding position in Group B.

There was only one change from the Highbury Heroes, as Daniele Adani stepped in for the injured Marco Materazzi. Christian Vieri was a last-minute addition to the squad, but could only start from the bench.

Javier Zanetti almost broke the deadlock within the first five minutes when one of his strong runs and powerful drives shook the side of the net.

Inter took the initiative, but Dynamo Kiev were always dangerous on the counter-attack and on twelve minutes Francesco Toldo was at full stretch to fingertip a Belkevich angled drive wide.

Adani was the only change from the Arsenal win and it was the ex-Fiorentina man who opened the scoring in controversial circumstances. Fabio Cannavaro headed a Kily Gonzalez free kick back across the face of goal and the 'keeper could only palm it straight into the path of Adani. However, replays showed the defender may have controlled the ball with his arm before firing in.

Toldo was celebrating his 100th appearance in a Nerazzurri shirt and was yet to concede a goal all season, but he was twice severely tested by stunning long-range Jerko Leko strikes.

Andy van der Meyde thought he had doubled Inter's lead soon after following fine build-up play between Emre Belozoglu and Obafemi Martins, but the referee blew for a dubious foul by the Nigerian.

Dynamo Kiev called another save from Toldo with Shatskikh before he made a mistake for their equaliser. The international goalkeeper failed to control a low Ghioane cross and Sergiy Fedorov pounced on the loose ball from six yards.

Inter fought back with Emre's mazy run resulting in an effort that skimmed the woodwork, but the two teams went into the half-time break on level terms.

Both sides continued to have good chances, as Kily Gonzalez saw one drive skim the woodwork and Julio Cruz's free kick was saved before Adani cleared a Belkevic opportunity.

Hector Cuper needed goals and threw on Christian Vieri for the final half-hour in place of Martins.

Thomas Helveg stepped in to push Javier Zanetti up to midfield, while Mohamed Kallon replaced the disappointing Cruz.

The Nerazzurri demanded a penalty for a slight Fedorov push on Vieri as he rose to meet a cross, but the referee waved play on.

Dynamo Kiev had a great chance to win it moments later, but Shatskikh's first touch let him down as he was left completely unmarked on the edge of the box.

Inter had a series of free kicks and in the final minute Vieri popped up to nod in an Emre set-piece. 'Bobogol' has been sorely missed and he redirected the ball with his back to goal.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inter: Toldo; Cordoba, Adani, Cannavaro, J Zanetti; Kily Gonzalez, Emre, C Zanetti, van der Meyde (Helveg 61); Cruz (Kallon 78), Martins (Vieri 59)

Dynamo Kiev: Shovkovsyi; Dmitrulin (Khatskevich 69), Gavrancic, Fedorov, Nemaschny; Ghioane, Belkevich, Peev, Leko; Rincon; Shatskikh (Melashenko 86)

No way it was deserved! The first goal Adani scored was after he handled the ball. And the last one came after a non existent free-kick. Dynamo played better, created more chances and deserved atleast a draw if not a win. And some of the Inter players are a true disgrace. Diving kings like Kily and Emre, they would fall from air blowing in their direction and then disgracefuly beg for the card.

And what happened to your superstars in Bucharest and every year you played in Europe before that? Don't you get tired of that scared, pathetic team we see in Europe every year? I know I am. Anyway good luck in Donetsk against the Romanians, if you play you best you should go through.

By the way about the weekend game, I don't think you can beat them in Kyiv right now, the draw would be a good result and that's what Shuster would probably be going for. Although if Dynamo is still shocked from the loss in Italy it would make life a lot easier for Shahtar. And you definatly need Agahowa up front, with Brandao you would find it hard to score. I am also dissapointed that Belyk is not playing at all, do you think Shuster is going to give him another chance?

Great win for Dynamo!
As in 1998 they beat Arsenal at home. The midfield was marvelouse, especially Leko and Belkevich. Shatskih did his job and thanks to Lehman for that give away After this win our chances to advence are much better

GloryHunter
I don't think he ment to offend Romanians, it's just an inocent dislike towards Dynamo Kyiv. It's very common amongst Shahtar and Dynamo fans So don't get too upset and Uzbek football is improving dramaticly

What does the Dynamo Kyiv - Shaktar feud have anything to do with Romanian players? That is why I don't understand why this guy uses Romanian players in his comparisson!

Ok ok I see what you are saying But I don't thinks it was a comparison, it's just Dynamo has Uzbek striker Shatskih who has a nick name pinoccio for his bad technic and they also have Tibi and Florin so they make jokes about them too as Dynamo players not Romanians
