National Irish team & League

What are your views on a united Irish national football team?

They have one for the rugby, why not the football?

And if so, what do you think the line up for this team would be?

Also, why not have a national league whereby teams from the six counties are incorporated to the Eiricom League?

Do you think this would strengthen teams with the increased competition?

I'm at a loss to see any benefit for those proposals.

This would be a great idea. I once remember George Best saying that he thought the only way Ireland could in the something would be as a united irish team. I don't think the Linfield supporters would be too happy with it though and I can't see it ever happening.

The team would be pretty much what the republic has at the moment coz Norn Iron are terrible, but years ago it would have been interesting.

The Linfield manager wants this to happen because he has seen the advances the Eircom League has made in recent seasons. I don't think it would happen because of sectarism. I'd say northerners would oppse an all ireland national team because only a few players would be choosen. Aaron Hugues would be one.

I would like to see a combined league... Here in Australia we have a NewZealand team in our National Competition. And the Rugby Union is 12 teams of South Africa, NewZealand and Australia. It works well...
