I asked you a question, you ignored it and went into attack mode. Don't go crying now that I replied to you and continuously expose you for the two-faced, ignorant, fat, gutless human being that you are.

#39 ·
Well, at least now we know the real reason for your frivolous moral indignation - you got defensive over the fact that you thought I was ignoring you.

I wasn't ignoring your pointed question, I merely felt that we had to resolve the first point of the conversation before moving on.

How about you try to be honest for a change?

#44 ·
Yeah, like I mentioned in my first post to Pila, bottom line... our league gets weaker. :( A crise dictates the market for us, unfortunately. We can't resist these massive offers.

#45 ·
Nor should they. Benfica and Porto do a good job of not selling to the first club that comes swinging by, but the reality of Portugal's economy is that these teams need outside revenue sources.

As an aside, I don't really care about Hulk's transfer figure since not one cent is coming my way; but I do find the various numbers still being thrown around as bizarre. Seeing weird numbers during talks is one thing, but once a deal is final you rarely see debate. It reminds me of all of the confusing BS that would come out of JVA's mouth.

In the end, both clubs reported 40 to the stock exchange. SLB did not report what they are collecting in net , so I have to assume that FCP is doing the same.

When I have time, I'm going to look into your point regarding release clauses; but it makes sense. Even with the parent company, I've been scratching my head over how Zenit was able to lay out that much cash. One article quoted their 2010 budget at 90M. I just didn't see how they are now capable of paying 40-80M in cash for transfers.

#46 ·
interesting turn of events, Zenit says that they paid exactly the same 40 Million for both players, Hulk will be paid by 2014 and Axel in two payment and paid off by 2013.

http://www.maisfutebol.iol.pt/fcporto/hulk-witsel-zenit-fc-porto-benfica-zenit/1372979-1304.html

This keeps getting better by the minute, if Axel's transfer is now a bit more clear the same cannot be said for Hulk, now I'm really having doubts about who is telling the truth and who is not, one thing is for sure, Benfica could have kept Axel.

Let's hope to hear more about this soap opera :D

I believe Josh posted a link, but they reported forty.

EDIT: The fun continued today as Zenit reported having negotiations with ManU over Nani. Player wage squashed the deal.

Witsel..

Everytime I look at a bola or record I see hilarious comments from Witsel about his transfer
Ie zenit is greater then benfica , zenit is better , step up from benfica, didn't move for money

Must be hard to swallow for many benfiquistss especially one regular poster on this forum who seems to have a particular emotional connection with the player.

How do you guys react to this ?

Benfica has and always will be a selling team, Garcia, Luis, Ramieres and Witsel just to name a few. The same re-investment is not made in the team.

Zenit have not sold a first team player for over 3 years. The only players who have been sold have been fringe players and there has been significant investment in the team from Gazprom. In the last 2 years (these are the figures I have picked up and might be incorrect) Witsel 40 Million, Hulk 40 Million, Crisitico 11 Million and Bruno Alves 20 Million. Outgoing players would generate less than 5 Million. So net spend would be around 106 Million including outgoings. My guess is Benfica have probably brought in about 70 or 80 Million and spent no more than 30 Million of it net profit of 50 Million, where on earth is it going if your getting close to full houses and through to the last 8 of the CL?

My guess is Witsel's comments are aimed at the future, Benfica have good European pedigree but they just keep selling there best players and the re-inforcements coming in are not of the same standard, wasn't it a case of 56 Million Euro coming in and 4 Million being spent on a striker from Braga? I'm not fully upto date with what Benfica have been doing so if you've spent 20 Million on a player with this 56 Million then I do apologise.

Going forward even more, Zenit have a brand new 70,000 seater stadium next season, they will carry on spending big and will no doubt bring in high calibre players in January. Witsel probably knows Benfica are likely to try and buy an unknown South American player for a couple of million or Martimo's star player for a couple of million and that is the difference. Benfica have no ambition to spend more than what they bring in despite having the biggest fan membership in the World.

Witsel will make his Zenit debut tomorrow by the way along with Hulk.

I am aware Benfica got the better of Zenit in the CL but that was due probably the worst goalkeeping performances ever in the CL by the Zenit reserve keeper in the 1st leg.

#56 ·
Witsel said that because he is getting paid gazilions in salary by his new team who just signed him. Lol at over analyzing it.

#58 ·
Course he did because the ambiton showed by the clubs on transfer deadline day had no reflection in how the teams want to go forward.

Zenit buy Hulk for 40 Million.

Benfica buy some random shite striker from Braga for 4 Million.

There is a bit of a difference with what the teams are bringing in isn't there?

Is Juve's transfer policy still spent on buying refs?

#64 ·
A player joined a new club where he's earning 4 times the amount of money he was before and has good things to say about that club!?!

Shocking stuff!

#68 ·
CDG, if you want to bash Benfica, fine, but do not comment on Portuguese clubs as a whole in Europe.

FC Porto have 2 ELs and 1 CL in the last 8 years. That's 3 European trophies in 8 seasons. A Pot 1 club as well.

Ensure you have all the facts before dismissing every Portuguese club, bro.

#69 ·
You will find I have already said Benfica have European pedigree but going forward what are there ambitions whilst they always sell there players? Is there really such a big deficit between attendances (isn't a full house most matches?) sponsorship, tv deals, champions league money and players sold against all outgoings i.e wages and the big money transfers like the 4 Million Euro deal with Braga.

The point raised was not about history but about future stating why Witsel might join Zenit other than money which is a higher % of progression in Europe NOW! Not previously but NOW! lol. In recent history last 4 years Zenit have one EL and 1 Super Cup against Benficas 0. Im sure Eusabio will pop up now with a comment about the 50's.

I am aware Porto are top dog in Portugal and then it's Sporting and then Benfica so you don't need to remind me.)

Fight for a domestic championship, get passed the group stage and maybe last 16 in the champions league.

Yes, drastic and major improvement and step up in quality.

Only major change and step forward is in terms of salary income - but you can keep on thinking otherwise.

#82 ·
Big talk from a guy whos team managed to finally make it out of the ultra challenging group stages in the CL for the first time in their history just last year.

And, ofcourse, get knocked out by said Benfica in the last 16 the minute they did.

#87 ·
Looks like Stanko didn't read this properly (Roger Stanko?) he is still typing away whilst wearing his Tottenham Bobble Hat, his Inter Milan gloves and his Barcelona slippers sat on his Bayern Munich bedspread.

I can't tell you about his Football posters though as there is a 5th team he likes!

#86 ·
I didn't get the memo that supporting a team is a binding contract that can occur with 1 side only. I'll check my junk mail though.

And yea, they're taking a sabbatical this time around, you know, to give the younger kids a shot at some international club football.

Novel act indeed :proud:

#97 ·
How much money was he paid in Benfica a year?

#103 ·
It's Real Madrid-like deal. If I'm not mistaken, Lassana Diarra made €5.5m a year or Hamit Altintop around €4m a year in RM...Galatasaray has policy of €3m salary cap. What's the case with Benfica? Who's the highest earner?
