A cultural exploration of Sinagpore!
Firdaus, I know you've seen this thread, so I've edited out the trolol material.
As I said, I'm intensively studying the history of Singapore at the moment and reading the biographies of Harry Lee & Goh Chok Tong. Would like to know your opinions as a patriotic Singaporean, on the economy and so forth.

The areas that interest me are: Social cohesion, Meritocracy & Education, and maybe housing as well.
I remember reading ages ago here some debate about caning and capital punishment in Singapore, just to clarify, I very much approve of this approach unlike some of the 'liberal' twats living in fairy land.

Regardless, I'm quite serious with my exploration idea. It's always a good idea to combine the cold facts and real life experience, and I'd like to borrow yours if you don't mind.
What's the key to success behind the social cohesion in Singapore? Your ethnic background is Malay I assume?
How has the PAP maintained unity despite all egos, character clashes and flaws present in any system?

Hey you colonial special adviser,
I am going over Singapore's Info-communications Development Authority of Singapore Act right now and the first thing mentioned in artice 3 of the act after the title and definitions is:
3. There is hereby established a body to be known as .......................... and shall, by that name, be capable of:
(a) suing and being sued

My weekly rant!

"For a moment there I returned to my youth, the early youth, when all nice illusions were gathered together. Then life came and, like a strong wind, blew them away, one by one. What we call happiness is sometimes the accordance between our life and circumstances, our biography and history, our personal aspirations and historical currents. If I look at things that way, I can say: I was born too early to be happy. But birth is one of the many things we do not get to choose. It is part of our destiny."

When are you coming? We should coordinate this.
Dab: I admire the way Singaporean elites regard and utlise the Law to their advantage. It's brilliant. Say one word that can't be substantiated and you'll be selling your ass in the streets to pay for that foolishness.

Step 1. Make the first language that is not theirs.
Step 2. Promote the 2nd language, Mandarin and Tamil, forego/ignore the dialects within the races. It is also important that you dont have divisions within the divided.
Step 3. Cut off the social welfare/privilleges. Make them get busy making a decent living and forget about rioting.
Step 4. Use an Internal Security Act... that you could detain without trial.... thats the best one.
How has the PAP maintained unity despite all egos, character clashes and flaws present in any system
Step 1 . Pay them ministers a world record salary. (probably still the poorest ministers after all )
Step 2 . Jail the corrupted. Scare the monkeys by killing chickens.
Step 3 . Go hardline, Whip vandals, arrest oppositions (on taxes) who talks against the policies., to make the masses fear/respect., think hard before attempting to bad-mouth anything
. etc.

That's an interesting response A10, especially step 3 in answer to the first question. It aligns with something I've realised now, simply that the vast majority of people have to be worked to death -- for their own good. The smart few, say the person who makes one painting a year and sells it for a large $$$ have earned the right to luxury time. The great unwashed will use free time to trouble themselves and others, mainly from boredom. That old proverb the devil creates work for idle hands comes to mind.

LL., the theory is...
When you are too rich, you create problems.
When you are too poor, you create problems too.
Get people somewhere in between. its like hanging a carrot in front. Bite a little and couldnt bite a little.
something like looking at a rain-soaked girl all the time, for the eyes.
