Best Worst Movie (2009)
Thread for discussion of this recent documentary hit.
Deep in your smile there's a quiet, soft desire
Like the embers of a once raging fire
You know I could light that fire again,
You know it isn't wise
I see the want to in your eyes

Saw this yesterday. Was completely unaware about Troll 2 and it's cult status. I liked it. Its a bittersweet story. The parts that really affected me were:
1.) The director failing to come to terms with the fact that he made a bad movie. Somehow convinced that its a good movie that's just misunderstood.
2.) The senior actors like the Grandfather and the shopowner and their personal stories.
3.) George Hardy getting carried away with his success at earlier screenings mentioning an interest in pursuing acting again. But then later after disappointments away from the niche crowd feeling sick of the whole concept of fandom.
Overall I enjoyed watching the documentary, it is structured pretty well and tells the story in a compelling way.

Does one need to watch Troll 2 also, to fully appreciate the documentary?

no...I've watched the doc 3 times and still have not bothered to see Troll 2
for some reason i think it would be a letdown after hearing it hyped up so much in the doc...but who knows maybe it is far greater than anybody could explain

Bayern is a machine, yes. But Real Madrid and Barcelona live on a different planet to the rest of the football world.

R10 summed up the docu nicely. I wasn't especially taken in by it. Hearing the douchebag fans in the first parts wasnt thaat surprising or revealing. The introduction of Claudio and other quirky characters offered some fun moments.
Personal enjoyment: 2/5
Filmmaking: 2.5/5

Pretty much concur with the opinion of Mourierinho and R10, nothing of much substance here, just a guilty pleasure type documentary, nothing really hard hitting or that interesting. But not entirely a waste of time either.

I got around to watching Best Worst Movie. I didn't enjoy it as a documentary, as I don't believe the subject matter warrants 90 minutes of people discussing it. I also grew to despise George Hardy, but I accept that that might well be the director's intention if we analyse the narrative structure of the film; George started out as a cheery chappy well-liked in his community but he became less cheerful as the film progressed.
I wasn't too impressed by the selection of films for Documentary Week, but hooray for democracy! Also I should add that, even though I didn't much enjoy the film Best Worst Movie, I was intrigued by Troll 2 enough to download it and may well view it sometime in the future.
