Injuries and Slight Niggles

Reuters

Liverpool's Polish international goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek has been ruled out of action for up to three months after suffering a fracture-dislocation of his elbow during training.

"Jerzy saw a specialist on Monday afternoon and will see another specialist on Tuesday for further investigation," spokesman for the European champions Ian Cotton told the club's website.

"He will be out of action for three months."

That would rule Dudek out of Poland's remaining World Cup qualifying games against Austria and Wales in September and its final game against England on October 12.

Dudek was the hero of Liverpool's Champions League final penalty-shootout victory over AC Milan in May, saving two Milan spotkicks and probably contributing to another wayward effort by his "spaghetti legs" antics on the line.

However, he was going to have to fight for his place in the Liverpool side this season following the signing of Spanish keeper Jose Reina from Villarreal.

I guess Reina is it for the beginning of the season. If he continues to play like he did at Villarreal, he should stay in as the starter.

Never thought Dudek was in with a shout to be honest.. but I'm sad he has to go through this injury knowing how painful it is.. get well soon..

Actually the word has been that this has ended any chance of us selling him.. more than a concern over the injury list..
Best Regards,

Yasir

Yeah I feel the same, speedy recovery Jerzy. Looks like he's stuck with us at least until January...

Reds youngster Barragan on Euro duty
Spanish youth international Antonio Barragan has been added to Liverpool's squad for their Champions League trip to CSKA Sofia as boss Rafael Benitez is without eight players through injury.

The former Sevilla full-back, 18, has impressed in training since moving to Anfield this summer, and he could play a part in the third qualifying round first-leg match in Bulgaria.

Goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek's dislocated elbow has only added to Benitez's problems.

He will be without £7million striker Peter Crouch (hamstring), new winger Boudewijn Zenden (muscle strain), full-backs Djimi Traore (muscle injury) and Josemi (thigh) while Harry Kewell, Neil Mellor and Florent Sinama-Pongolle are all still recovering from operations.

Liverpool have also thinned out their squad recently by allowing Anthony Le Tallec, Carl Medjani and Chris Kirkland to leave on loan, while Antonio Nunez has now completed his move to Celta Vigo.

Liverpool squad (provisional): Reina, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Whitbread, Warnock, Riise, Luis Garcia, Alonso, Hamann, Gerrard, Sissoko, Cisse, Morientes, Baros, Potter, Carson, Barragan.
