Transfer Rumours - 10/11 Season
Ok, so in an attempt to stimulate some discussion I'll open a new thread for the coming season.
Have to say, it doesn't look particularly exciting for us. We've barely been heavily linked with any exciting players barring Gudjohnson so forgive me if I seem less enthused about our upcoming season.
Recent news:
Zamora and Painstil to talk to Fulham. I'm ok with this. Zamora has done well for us since he's joined and has brought me a lot of fond memories but he definitely has a ceiling of talent which isn't going to help us progress. He can go. On Painstil, I actually think he's a decent attacking full back but Curbs obviously doesn't rate him at all so I guess there's no point in him sticking around.
Neil looks like he's on the go. Like him as a player and was very important in our relegation fight a couple of seasons ago, but he's on massive wages so I guess it makes sense. I might change my tune when Curbishley brings in Luke Young or some shit, though. We've been linked with Behrami for right back, which I think is pretty genuine, but he'll probably end up in Germany.
Sunderland apparently bid £4.5 million for McCarthey - which we rejected. WTF? At that price I'd drive him to Tyneside.
As far as attacking players go, I've got nothing apart from the continued links with Gudjohnson.
Although I did read about us being interested in Juan Arango. I would LOVE to see this happen but I will remain cautious about this one.

West Ham reject McCartney offer
George McCartney could be returning to the Stadium of Light
West Ham have turned down an improved £4.5m offer from Sunderland for Northern Ireland defender George McCartney, BBC Sport understands.
The 27-year-old full-back joined the Upton Park club from Sunderland in 2006 in a four-year deal worth £1m.
The Hammers paid £600,000 for McCartney in a swap deal which saw Clive Clarke moving in the opposite direction.
McCartney is a former Black Cats captain and played 157 times for the team in an eight-year spell.
end football Apartheid in Ireland!!

Apparently he wants to stay, though. Personally, providing we have a suitable replacement, I think we should sell him for that kind of money.

With Nani now in his role I'd be surprised if the papers guessed anything right you sign, like us last season.

I am shocked at the prices being thrown around in the premier League this season..Zamore isn't a 6 million player. He isn't a bad player but he isn't that good. He won't be too much a loss, quick technically decent goalscorer with a nice touch but he is lightweight and blows a lot of hot and cold in terms of form. Everytime I saw Pantstill he ran his arse off and got stuck in but just wasn't premiership quality.

Probably. ALthough for some reason I think the Edison Cavani on loan rumours hold a bit of water.

With the prices being thrown around in the Premier League that isnt too much a surprise but he would be a good signing. Very quick and very hardworking, will give you always 200% and his goalscoring record is pretty good.
Nice signing

Yes, but we dersperately need some midfielders. Ashton, Bellamy, Cole and Sears is enough up front (I'm assuming Zamora will be sold).
Juan Arango was rumoured. Would love him.

I would disagree there. Three are injury prone and one is an unproven youngster.

Cole wasn't really that injury prone last season, though. But sure, you've got a point I guess but I can't imagine us having the same injury problems as last season. Either way, we're in need of a creative midfielder moreso than a striker.

Juan Arango would totally rip up the premier League.
Brilliant attacking player. Technically worldclass, great shot, great vision and can split a defence with his lovely left foot as well as being a great set piece taker. The thing that will make him excel in the Premier League is that he is strong and works hard, and is a very smart player able to adapt to the pace. Problems with him lie with him being a tad slow and having a questionable attitude.
You really do need creativity though as you have got rid of your most dangerous player in that area Solano. You do need another top class striker as well I think

Man, what is happening to Mallorca's frontline? They were fantastic going forward last season but look set to lose Guiza and Arango with Ibagaza and Gutierrez already going.

Zamora deal is apparently pretty close. I'd prefer it if we keep him and let Cole go but the price for Zamora is too good to turn down. Will always remember his goal which helped us get promoted and some very important goals in our first and 2nd season in the Prem.

From that list of rumors these are the ones that I'd love to see go down. Ins and Outs.
IN: Bresciano. I know he's a winger. If we can get him playing on the left side I'd say we go for him. LBM and Ethers are shit.
Klasnic: Good striker. Better than anyone in Claret and Blue right now at the position.
Arango. Talent in the attacking midfield. We could use that.
Shorey- Ripe for the taking. Still want him play left back for us.
Andy Johnson- If we dont get pantsed over the price go for it.
Gudjohnsen- I'm so ****ing sick of these rumors about him coming. Get this deal done FFS.
Bobadilla: Good backup keeper. Sell Wright. Buy this guy
OUT:
Wright: Hes moaning about not enough minutes. Let Albion and Ipswich duke it out in a bidding war.
Zamora: Gone already. Grateful for getting us up in 05. Grateful for keeping us up in 07. Now its time to move on.
Paintsil: short lived terrace favorite
Neill: Helped keep us up. A drain on funds these days. Try Stella at right back and if that doesnt work. Find someone else. I'll pack his bags and carry him on the next flight to Istanbul.
C-Cole: Nice goal against City. Good effort in attempting a comeback. Try the CCC or Sunderland.
Ashton: Hes fat. Nothing special and if Klasnic and Gudjohnsen came I'd send him to Pompey with a check for 6 million quid and hope we get Kranjcar.

You'd sell Ashton?
And get whom in his place? He's easily our most intelligent forward and it will remain that way except in the unlikely event that we sign Gudjohnson. And that Portsmouth idea just wouldn't happen since they've just signed Crouch and Krancjar is a very important player.
As I've said, our forwards are good enough providing Ashton and Bellamy stay fit for the majority of the season. What we are crying out for is a quality central midfielder and a quality attacking midfielder.
