Serie B: Two more Coaches sacked Wednesday 11 September, 2002
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Serie B season has not even kicked off yet, but already three Coaches have been sacked, two in the space of 24 hours. The latest casualty is Catania boss Osvaldo Jaconi, who resigned from his post this afternoon following a row with the club¡¦s owners. ¡§I hoped that this would be a long-lasting marriage, but it was not to be,¡¨ said the ex-Livorno tactician who only took over at Catania this summer. ¡§The Gaucci family wanted success immediately, and that isn¡¦t always possible when there are so many new faces in the squad.¡¨ The Gaucci¡¦s are also well known as the owners of Serie A side Perugia and Catania President Riccardo Gaucci is the son of Grifoni patron Luciano. Jaconi has been replaced by second in command Maurizio Pellegrino and former Torino star Ciccio Graziani, who is also the Vice-President of the Sicilian club. Also this evening Cagliari revealed that tactician Nedo Sonetti had been shown the door following two defeats out of three Coppa Italia games. Although no official confirmation on his replacement has yet been received, it is believed former fan favourite Giampiero Ventura will be back on the bench for this weekend¡¦s opening Serie B ties. Earlier this summer Messina had hired and then fired Stefano Cuoghi. The Coach has now moved on to Serie C1 side Spezia, replacing Fabio Brini at the helm. channel4 |
Gaucci and Cellino, two famous coach-killers.
The next killer could be Zamparini, since Zampa is already dissatisfied by Glerean. |
The winners of Serie B will either be Hellas Verona or Sampdoria. :)
|
Glerean was indeed sacked. A madness in my opinion, as he is a great coach. His Cittadella was one of the prettiest sides of Serie B and had he had a decent squad he would have done much more.
|
I agree with you, Amoroso.
I read an interview of Zamparini (this man is crazy!!!): he talked about his coaches. He had 29 different coaches in his carreer as a president of Venezia!!!! And some of them were called more than once! You should read that interview: Zampa says that it's normal to sack a coach and that just Novellino avoided to be sacked (since he gained a promotion to serie A and avoided the relegation). yet, Novellino went to Napoli the following year and Zampa said that he did not liked this thing at all.... I think because he could not stand the fact to see a coach to go away without being sacked!!!! A great interview, I must admit, just Scoglio and few others could be as comic as him. |
Who is that Arrigoni dude they hired now? I've never heard of him.
Fact is, without a good coach you have absolutely no chance of getting promoted from Serie B and after you promote, the biggest mistake is sacking your coach. Napoli did this mistake when they hired Zeman instead of keeping Camolese two years ago and Como is about to do same thing by sacking Dominissimi. |

I don't know Arrigoni at all. I know the cheese of the Arrigoni bros. that's all! The coach is very important. I think that finally Sampdoria has the right coach (and the right team). Few other teams in Serie B have the right coach to get promotion, in my opinion. Surely Napoli (Colomba). |
Results and short comments of serie B:
Ascoli-Samp 0-0 mediocre match.... s*h*i*t Napoli-Cosenza 1-2 the defense of Napoli give Casale, one of the slowest men on the earth, all the time to prepare one of his precise shoots 0-1, head of Vidigal 1-1, FK by Casale that score after 2 attempts (the referee probably saw Feyenoord-Juve and decided to do the same), in the end of the game a really bad image: Russo, a young player of Napoli had a leg broken in a really bad way. Palermo-Siena 1-0 PK Maniero. Siena protested a lot! Lecce-Salernitana 2-1 Edy Baggio scores for the team of Zeman 0-1, but Chevanton with a wonderful overhead and Giacomazzi (assist of Vugrinec) reverse the situation. Messina-Catania 3-3 with 3 goals by the old Belgian Oliveira (!!!!). (Ahi ahi Como, why did you send him away?). Vicenza-Ancona 1-1 Venezia-Verona 1-1 Cenoa Turkeys-Bari 0-0 Ternana-Cagliari 0-1 Livorno-Triestina 2-0 Cosenza and Livorno are leaders with 6 point. I'm ready to bet that these teams will soon lose the leadership! The top-scorer is Casale with 3 goals (incredible!) |
Lulu Oliveira is also tied top scorer. ;)
Let me get this right, did Como released Oliveira and Taldo, the players who carried them to promotion last season, only to replace them with Dennys Godeas (good, but he doesn't have Lulu's class), Benny Carbone who hasn't played good football for about 4 years and Bjelanovic, an unknown player who has never played in Italy before? And then teams wonder why they relegate. |
Serie B: Torrente is new Genoa boss Wednesday 25 September, 2002
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Genoa have appointed former captain Vincenzo Torrente as their new Coach following Claudio Onofri¡¦s resignation. Several top tacticians, including ex-Bari man Eugenio Fascetti, had been linked to the vacant bench at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium, but the Rossoblu preferred to promote one of their own people. 36-year-old Torrente first joined the club in 1984 from Nocerina and as a defender played over 400 games for Genoa. The fan favourite was in charge of their ¡¥Allievi¡¦ youth team section and becomes the fifth manager to step in so far this season in Serie B. Messina, Catania, Palermo and Cagliari have already sacked their Coaches with just two games of the new campaign played. Onofri, who resigned due to ¡§excessive stress¡¨, has returned to his former employment as Genoa youth Coach. Also in Serie B, Siena have signed ex-Fiorentina goalkeeper Pino Taglialatela on a one-year contract. He was drafted in as Andrea Mazzantini is still recovering from a car crash. channel4 |

Toshack agrees Catania deal Thursday 7 November, 2002
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Toshack is the new Coach of Serie B side Catania. The Welshman has agreed a one-year deal and will make it official on Friday. The former Real Madrid boss will net himself approximately £100,000 and has an option to remain at the club for one more year if he proves a success. Catania sacked Maurizio Pellegrino after Tuesday’s defeat against Napoli and flew Toshack into Rome today for talks. The ex-Liverpool striker was linked earlier this week with the Republic of Ireland job after Mick McCarthy resigned. The former Welsh international has had Coaching spells with Swansea City, Sporting Lisbon, Real Sociedad, Deportivo La Coruna, Besiktas and Saint Etienne. He also bossed the Welsh national side but quit after one game. channel4 |
