Alexi Lalas, who ended a one-year retirement to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy, will be sidelined indefinitely with a left knee injury.
The 30-year-old defender first was believed to have torn cartilage and a partially torn ligament in the knee, but doctors said after re-examining Lalas on Monday that the injury instead was a sprained ligament.
Lalas will under go rehabilitation on the knee and will be re-examined again in two weeks. The injury occurred during an April 27 workout.
