Why is there only one Croatian team? We usually had two, the fifth placed team would enter the second round while the sixth would enter the first round. Kamen Ingrad finished 7th, but in the Croatian league the teams split into two sections (the top six play each other, and the bottom six play each other). Kamen Ingrad was the best team in the bottom six but why the hell do we split up the league when only 3 teams from the top six make it to Europe?
And I remember reading that we had two Intertoto Cup places, the first round team would play Malta and the second round team would play a Russian side.
ahh this whole thing is confusing me!! :pp :fero: :fero:
look at this site..http://www.uefa.com/competitions/IntertotoCup/news/Kind=1/newsId=163782.html
on this thread it said only Kamen Ingrad, here it says "Cro1 and Cro2"

Sorry I can only produce the numbers but not the names of the players. They are not listed in the match programme. Bistrita had one more change in the 82' but I could not see who went on teh pitch...
Weather: heavy clouds, spells with hefty rain (I'm still wet...)
Report: A first half to forget, no action on both sides of the pitch. Bistrita played a sort of a 8-1-1 as they looked to be satisfied with a scoreless draw and they stood well until halftime. After the break Thun was far better than Bistrita and had several good chances of which two were converted in the 62' and the 65' minute. Even after that Bistrita could not muster any real offensive play and Thun went on to get near to the 3rd goal. A shame the Reds could not score one or two more goals. With two goals the rematch can still bring another sort of a result... I do not hope so, but one never knows what can happen...
The winner of the two games will face Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg in the 2nd round.
Cheers

Wow Slaven Belupo really impressed me. :wallbang:
How is a team that finished freakin 8th in the Croatian league is this competion. Hopefully they will turn it around in the home leg in Koprivnica. Usually in the Intertoto Cup one Croatian team embarrasses themselves while one always makes a nice run but eventually falls to one of the favorites in the tournament.

Slaven will win at home. They began preperations less than a week ago. Still shouldn't have lost.
Slaven have had some great runs in the past. I doubt it will happen again though as they are full of kids these days.
Bravo Sartid. That result gives them a good chance of going through to the next round.:D

Cork City 3 Malmo 1
Cork City produced their best-ever European performance with a 3-1 win over Swedish side Malmo at Turner’s Cross tonight.
Showing no regard for their more illustrious opponents, City played their best football of the season to create a huge upset in the Inter-Toto Cup and give themselves a great chance of outright victory in the tie next Sunday in Sweden.

The only teams that win this tournament are Italian, German and Spanish. English teams rarely enter the Intertoto, I only remember Fulham who won and Newcastle the season when Derby were relegated. It pretty much useless for the smaller countries.

Well didn't some Russian team get to the final once, and Bordeaux, they won the Interoto Cup and then went on to the UEFA Cup final. Also, Vojvodina got to the final once as well (1996?) and lost to some Swedish team. I think it's good for the smaller countries, it gives them a chance to actually compete in some European competition.

Just one slight correction, Slaven Belupo won their match against Vllaznia of Albania not Hapoel Beer-Sheva. The Israelis were kicked out becuase they failed to send in the full list of players. Although they would of advanced, becuase of this Vllaznia was awarded to play in the next round.

FC Thun 1898 v VfL Wolfsburg 4:1 (4:0)
Lustrinelli, dos Santos, Renggli and Raimondi on penalty scored an incredible four goals before halftime to ensure our qualification for the next UEFA Intertoto round where another German side Hamburger SV waits for their elimination
Only a handful of spectators - a mere crowd of 2870 - watched a splendid display of football under heavy clouds - a shame. I hope that Hamburg will attract some more fans to see our Reds play!
Cheers

Cork City booked an Intertoto Cup clash with Nantes after their 1-0 win over NEC Nijmegen at Turner's Cross this afternoon.
City will leave for France on Thursday after Kevin Doyle's 47th-minute winner sent them through to the quarter-final of the competition.
In doing so, Pat Dolan becomes the most successful Eircom League manager in Europe with five wins from 10 games and City become the first team from the league to reach the third round of the competition.
With Danny Murray imperious at the back, Colin O'Brien dominant in midfield and John O'Flynn a menace all afternoon City were not to be denied.
Nantes...damn

Finals Take Shape
8/5/2004
The finals for the Intertoto are set as Atletico Madrid will battle Villarreal in an all-Spanish clash, while Portuguese side Leiria take on Lille and Schalke will face Slovan Liberec.
The winners of the three finals will advance to the UEFA Cup.
Atletico Madrid made short work of OFK as they easily won 2-0 on Wednesday to take the aggregate score to 5-1.
Fernando Torres and Aguilera Martin with the goals for the Spaniards.
Villarreal pulled off their second consecutive 1-0 defeat of Hamburg to advance 2-0 on aggregate. Jose Mari scored the eventual game winner for last season's UEFA Cup semi-finalists.
First-half goals from Fabio Felicio and Edson proved enough for Uniao Leiria as they went on to defeat the Belgian side Genk and advance to the finals via a 2-0 aggregate scoreline.
Slovan Liberec pulled off the biggest upset of Wednesday's action, even they they lost 2-1 to Nantes they still advanced on away goals. Yapi with the brace for Nantes, but it wasn't enough to send them through thanks to Hološko strike.
Meanwhile, Schalke advanced to the finals on Tuesday as they cruised past EFB 3-0 and 6-1 on aggregate.
