The NOS at least secured the rights for the CL for the upcoming years again yesterday. SBS and of course De Mol was also in the running. So now instead he has brought in Barend&Van Dorp.

Sadder news is that the VRT has lost the rights for the CL to VTM. I think they still have it for next season, but after that not anymore. Perhaps a lot will change still in medialand that it won't matter much, but I always thought it was handy to have two channels showing CL. Especially if it were both different, but interesting games on paper. So that you could switch if one was becoming a bit boring.

Yeah, that last part is bad news indeed. I actually like the Belgian version of a CL night more. Their commentary is a lot more colourful and the highlights of other matches are more or less divided fairly in time, contrary to the NOS. Plus their sides usually do pretty badly and end up going out early which means they show a lot of quality football for the remainder of the season.

I'm thinking of getting UPC, don't know if that's a nationwide thing or just here in R'dam though..

You mean digital television? Then you will at get some more channels that can offer live football, like Rai or the German RTL. Damn, long ago we had them too on the cable and we could also watch CL football. For that Voetbalkanaal you have to pay extra.

Yeah that's it, not only Rai and RTL are on it, but also ESPN Classic sport, Eurosport 1 + 2, extreme sports and motor channels. So even without ´het voetbalkanaal´ it´s still worthwhile IMO.

Just when I praised the Belgians, they decided to make the same mistake as the NOS by showing Chelsea-Bayern. :rollani:

BTW: amazing to hear Eidur still talk so good Dutch. Eventhough he has been away for so long now already.

Also nice to see Japie getting his first goal for Milan.

True, some players should follow his example. Guys like Maxwell, Pienaar, Leonardo and many others

coming from Iceland and speaking a Germanic language does help though. Also with the Danish players we've had here like Tomasson who more or less spoke perfect Dutch too but yeah looking at Leonardo whos been here for more than 10 years !! and who's barely comprehensible makes you wonder what he's been up to all that time. IT doesn't have to be perfect but come on.
Same with the other players you mentioned but to a lesser extent.

Is Leonardo already playing over 10 years of football in Holland? I didn't know that.
Maybe some guys who find Dutch really hard to learn may think after a while "Hey, I'm not gonna be here forever anyway, and everyone speaks English, so what's the big deal?"

actually I can't count it's 9 as he came to Feyenoord when he was 13 and he's now 22 but for a learner I agree it can be harder to learn Dutch cos when you even try to speak Dutch as a learner, most Dutch people at shops for example will answer you back in English to "make it easier". It's not done with bad intent but for a foreign learner, it makes it harder especially for those who work at foreign companies who mainly socialize with foreign ex-pats too.

Talking about Eidur again, his daddy played in Belgium during Eidur's early years, so he might have learned something of our beautiful language back then too.

Also an interesting thing to know about Eidur is that he must be the only guy to play together with his old man for the NT, Iceland that is of course.
