EURO 2016: Romania vs Switzerland

Wednesday 15 June, 19:00 (Romanian time)

Parc des Princes, Paris

1.France 3
2.Swiss 3
3.Romania 0

Romania can't lose, or their options will go down drastically.

Historical head to head: 12 matches, 5 Romanian wins, 4 Swiss wins and 3 draws.

Same keeper, same defence...and then, we have to think. Maybe the same team again with the doubt Popa/Torje and the striker. I'd play with Alibec starter in this game. And minutes to Lucian in the 2nd half. Lucian is important even when we're up in the score, since he can keep the ball.

Americans are very brave. Not only we play with Sanmartean as only DM, but we play with 10 men too

Whoops. Haha! I'd have Hoban play DMF. I didn't like Pintilii's game yesterday.

I think that if Lucian doesn't start, then Prepelita should play. Hoban wasn't good, and both DM's made a tremendous effort. Prepe is a bit more technical than both, specially Pintilii

Iordanescu will use Pintilii every minute of this tournament until he's suspended. Yesterday Spaniard commentators were saying how important he was for Iordanescu, and it's probably true.

They were very pro-Romania btw (maybe because of Spanish rivalry with France, but it surprised me). Camacho, former player and coach, looked a Romanian ultra lol. They all said positive things of the Romanian game.

IDK guys, you know I'm not a fan of Pintilii in general but I think he was key for us yesterday and was our best player. Yeah he can't verticalize as some guys were saying on Dolce, but that's not his role anyway, especially vs France, a team that has some 'size' so to speak.

Certainly it's debatable if he should start vs Suisse and Albania but IMO he did really well yesterday. And I think GICA is right, he's the #1 guy in DM. He gives his all for the NT... I wish he smarter in his fouling though.

Personally, I didn't like Hoban's game yesterday. The analysts said his task was to annihilate Pogba, so maybe I should watch again to see if he did that well because otherwise he was invisible.

I am curious what Iordanescu is preparing this as:

1) a must-win match (which would make our life easier in the last round...)

2) a must-not-lose match (a tie would complicate our situation, wouldn't be terrible, but would mean we're less likely to lose, which would really make life complicated in the last round, where we'd need at least a 2 goal victory vs Albania, most likely, to qualify)

Personally I think this is the most important match--if we win we'll get both points and a morale boost. And we can win.

Starting line-up... Yeah, I'd keep the same GK and DF. And here comes the tricky bit.

---------Pintilii---Prepelita

Torje--------Stanciu---------Stancu

-------------Andone/Alibec (I don't know if I have a preference here--but I'd go with Alibec vs Albania)

We need good finishers... Perhaps I'd even risk with Lucian iso Prepelita from the 1st minute. Torje/Popa about the same level, but I think Popa is more useful vs Albania.

Vs Albania I'd probably do

------Pintilii--Sanmartean

Popa-------Stanciu--------Torje

-------------Alibec

It's hard to say since I dunno if any of our boys are tired.

My starting XI vs the Swiss:

---------Tătărușanu

Săpunaru Grigore Chiricheș Raț

-------Pintilii---------Hoban/Prepelita

Torje-------Stanciu------Stancu

------------Keseru ( I got a good feeling about him )

They better not be tired, they have plenty of time to rest with an extended team tournament and the opening game. I'm just worried they've had too much time to think about losing out on a point. But there were some positives to take away.

Journalists and reporters look a bit bored these days
General? Nu, dictator! Iord?nescu a transformat cantonamentul na?ionalei într-un pol de tensiune ?i nesiguran?? total?!

Leave the coach and the players alone, morons!

Russian Karasev will be the ref btw.

The media always does this. I remember that even in 1994, when I started following the NT, there was tension created by the media.
GICA and Hagibest like this.

You never know if it´s true, but Iordanescu has given many signs of being outdated, so it wouldn´t surprise me

We´ve played with those players thousands of times (except for Stanciu), and it always resulted in chaotic football. Against Ukraine they were used, but Lucian was there, and whenever he plays our game changes, as he brings some ball control and pause to the game.

I don´t trust Keseru, unless he gets a ball 5 meters from goal

I also hope to see Sanmartean on the field at one point, he can create a scoring chance by himself.

Regarding our strikers , Keseru has proved in the past he can score goals with the NT ( 2 goals against Denmark ).

That was his only good game in 14 appearences. Then 2 goals against Feroe and the fifth vs Georgia. It hardly recommends him as starter. He´s had plenty of chances IMO. Alibec is yet to play a full game

Suisse in the qualifying rounds:

Straight losses to England, 2x 0-2.

1 loss, 1 win vs Slovenia; in Suisse, the Slovenes were leading 0-2 and the Swiss beat them 3-2 in the last minute, 3 goals in the last 15'.

No problems vs Estonia and Lithuania at home but 1 goal victories away, 1 in the last minute (EST) and 1 after being led (LTU).

San Marino results irrelevant.

Seems like they benefit from home advantage and they are a team who can stage come-backs and likes to win at the last minute.

Friendlies this year:

0-1 away vs Ireland
0-2 home vs Bosnia
0-1 home vs Belgium
2-1 home vs Moldova

I'm not sure how relevant these are.

IMO, there's little difference between us and them but I hope luck's finally gonna be on our side.
