Only 3 days left for the Rio2016. What do you guys think of our medal chances?

My personal favorite is Rovshan Bayramov. The kid deserves his gold medal. I am also eager to see what Haji and Togrul will do. The expectations are high for both of them. Rasul is also among the favorites, and I think he can do very well. Jabrayil has been an underachiever so far, and he will need to be at his best to medal in his weight category.

We can also do well in judo. The head coach Seisenbacher has improved the physicality component of our athletes, and it showed over the past few years. At least four judokas (Orkhan, Nijat, Rustam, and Elmar) are among medal contenders.

We might get a bronze medal or two in boxing, but I don't expect much.

I expect 1 gold and minimum 1 bronze from boxing. I have high hopes for Elvin Mamishzade.

As for wreslting, I agree that Rovshan deserves gold. But whether he gonna get it, we'll see. His getting old. I think Toghrul, Haji and Rasul got fantastic chances for gold. So from wrestling, I expect 2 golds plus other medals.

Expect medal from artistic gymnastics.

So overall, my prediction:

3 golds, 3 silver, 8 bronze. :coffee:

#13 ·
and I blame you for that :) You totally jinxed him

#19 ·
Great job by Rustam. The world #2, he was among favorites, and he delivered. Now, let's hope that Rustam doesn't fade away like Elnur did.

#21 ·
freaking ref screwed Mammadali in judo today

#22 ·
Oh. My. God!

Nijat Rahimov just won the gold medal in weightlifting and shattered the world record in the process. What a man!

and what an awesome way to show a middle finger to our imbeciles from weightlifting federation.

Bravo, Nijat!

#23 ·
I really hope Nijat surpasses the other great Azeri weightlifter Hossein Rezazadeh. Hossein retired as a 2-time Olympic and 4-time World champion.
At 22, Nijat already has one Olympic and one World title.

#29 ·
Great job by Elmar. It stings to fall short so agonizingly close of the gold medal, but it's a great success nevertheless.

I think our judo team deserves a solid A/A- for their performance in Rio.

#31 ·
We are yet to unleash our heavy artillery

#33 ·
Mejidov, Mammadov and Shakhsuvarly will be fighting against Kazakhs in the next round, and if our trio prevails then they will almost certainly medal. It's going to be tough though.
