Klubi shqiptar nga Maqedonia i cili eshte i kobshem per armiqt e shqiptareve!
The inception of Shkëndija as a professional football club was in 1979. The team was the pride of the city of Tetova and all albanians in Macedonia and beyond. In 1981 there was political unrest in ex-Yugoslavia, it was a time when being albanian or being associated with anything albanian meant that you're in for extreme hardship. Unfortunately, Shkëndija did not escape this fate either. In 1981 the ruling communist government closed down our beloved team Shkëndija on the basis that the team was too albanian. Even though Shkëndija never died in the peoples' mind and heart, it wasn't until 1992 when Shkëndija was able to again form as a professional team in what was then Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, although it startet to train and play friendlies again around 1989-1990.
In the first season after its reformation in 1992-93, Shkëndija started from zero again, the team played in the local league or the 4th division. Shkëndija was the champion and advanced to the third league.
In its second season, Shkëndija was playing in the third league - northwestern region. The championship was up for grabs until the very last match. In a very tense, exciting match, a match that would decide the new champion, in which the stadium was overflowing with fans way beyond the capacity, the second placed Shkëndija played against the first place Fortuna. Shkëndija won in a memorable fashion. Shkëndija was the champion and it would advance again. Shkëndija never looked back again.
Through the coming years, Shkëndija was known as Shkëndija Tetovë, Shkëndija HB, and now Shkëndija 79. But it always was Shkëndija, and it will always remain so.
