This is for ILA. :smileani:
First of all, sorry I don't know where to put this stuff since Asian Football forum is pretty much dead. But since it's related to our club, I just put it here.
By the way, Arsenal is one of European teams that ever visited Indonesia and probably one of most earliest to visit and play against Indonesian team. Surprisingly, Arsenal actually had bad record against Indonesian teams. They were once beaten by Niac Mitra, a strong team led by Fandi Ahmad
(a Singaporean football legend who also once played for FC Groningen) 2-0 with both O'Leary and Pat Jennings on the team. Other defeat was against PSMS Medan, but I'm not very sure of this one since I was still a kid.
Victory against Arsenal proved that Indonesian football was glorious in '80. But after few decades and changes in league regulation, the quality of Indonesian football is down to sewer with ridiculous cases of corruption anywhere in the sport governing body. Niac Mitra, the club that beaten Arsenal, is only a forgotten name now as the club was disbanded by its owner long time ago due to unhealthy competition.
Here're the photos of Niac Mitra vs Arsenal :
The line-up for Arsenal :
Team: Jennings, Hill (Robson), Sansom, Talbot, O’Leary, Whyte (Lee), McDermott, Sunderland, Meade (Chapman), Davis, Rix
Fandi Ahmad had been assistant coach for Singapore NT and manager of some Indonesian clubs. He is now senior coach for SSI Arsenal Indonesia, which is the best football academy in the country.
