Boxing chat

Stuff you reckon is too small to have a thread about (basically everything bar Hatton, Klitschko and Calzaghe on this forum lol)
Quote:

Heavyweights Hasim Rahman (45-6-3, 36 KOs) and James Toney (70-6-3, 43 KOs) both vowed to knock each other out during a press event on Thursday in Los Angeles. Both fighters seem to be in excellent shape for their twelve rounder on July 16 at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA. Rahman stated that he dosen't do a lot of talking but talks with his fists in the ring. "I agree wholeheartedly that the loser of this fight should retire," said Rahman. "I'm not only gonna be the guy who is going to retire James Toney, I'm gonna be the first guy to knock him out as well." Toney responded, "If he says he's going to knock me out, God bless him. The last time we fought he had his track shoes on for 12 rounds. This time I am coming in shape....I won't leave it to the judges this time. I'm going to do everything to knock HIM out!" Promoter Dan Goossen proclaimed that this is the best fight in the division without a world Championship title involved. Ticket information and undercard participants will be announced shortly.
Honestly who would pay to watch these guys? lol

I still hope Ratman will fight Haye in the fall. Always great to see the Ratman get knocked out.

Depends what shape Toney is in.

If he is good shape, which I doubt, then he schools Rahman.

If he is in his usual stomach over shorts shape, he will lose.

Amir Kahn showing the same weaknesses tonight that he has showed in previous fights. Not ready for a major World belt yet, still prone to lapses that will be fatal against stronger and superior world class fighters.

Real good scrap though. Gomez despite being old and just a British title standard fighter really gave it his all. Credit to him.

No doubt Warren'll continue to protect Kahn..perhaps even more now after this display lol

Arthur Abraham btw as well as Mikkel Kessler

Same here. Pacman to win by UD.

I'll be surprised if Manny wins by KO. Diaz might not be great but he is tough and with this being MAnnys first fight at this weight..

I'll also be keeping an eye on the Tye Fields-Monte Barrett fight. Two terrible fighters but looking at the state the heavyweight division with its idiotic promotors and corrupt belt holding organizations, Fields might God forbid, be two or three fights away from a title shot if he wins.

Chagaev-Valuev on July the 5th not going ahead btw. Chagaev injured again this time tearing his Achilles tendon

Complete annihilation of Diaz, not even a contest.

It was said despite being tough that Diaz technically was the weakest of the title belt holders though but still good display from the Pacman.

Talk of Hatton maybe next year

Fact that the likes Tye Fields is regarded as a serious HW is a joke. He is just a big lump, like Samuel Peters with absolute minimal talent. David Haye is going to clean this division out in a canter, including that boring oaf Wlad.

Haye is top notch.

But that says a lot for the division.

Manny Pacquiao vs Edwin Valero on November the 8th probably in Texas being touted around.

Interesting fight for the fans like me but some of the experts seem to think Valero has even less chance than Diaz did cos of his poor technique.

Anyone just watch Klitschko-Tony Thompson?
Not the most exciting Wlad performance but still too good for this not very great challenger.

Funny to hear the Setanta commentators trying to big up Haye and Povetkin. The last despite always coming forward is just too small to really hurt Wlad IMO while Haye's just a annoying bigmouth who's slightly above average.

Judah v Clottey this weekend. The bad boy of boxing Judah from Brooklyn now living in Vegas and Clottey Ghanian now residing in the Bronx. New York connection tear up.

Could be the last chance for Judah to win another title. Defeat should be the end of the road for him although he always seems to get the chances.

Hoping for a Clottey win.

I haven't seen a lot of Clottey but I know he's coming off a good win.

I'm familiar with Judah and know that he's in that bracket where he'll always fall short against the best opposition but comfortably beat anyone below him. This is live on Setanta in the UK so I'll give it a watch. Should be a good atmosphere in NYC at least.

Oh ok, that seems strange considering Judah always attracts a healthy number of followers in his hometown and you assume Clottey would too. Oh well, I'll be watching from London so it doesn't really affect me either way.

Judah's a ****. Hope Clottey beats him. PRobably won't happen though

Ricky Hatton vs feather fisted Paulie Malignaggi confirmed for November the 22nd in Las Vegas. Both weren't at their best in Manchester but if it goes to points, I think Paulie can do it. Guy's so slick and fast when at his best. Hatton will then have to knock him out and if Cotto couldn't...
That said, that's a Paulie at his best. If both reproduce their Manchester form, Ricky to win on points.

Clottey won on a technical decision in the ninth round. It was stopped supposedly for a headbutt that inflicted on Judah a nasty cut round the eye but the replay showed that it was in fact a shot from Clotty that had caused it. Judah kidded the doctor that he couldn't see out of his eye and the fight was stopped. Not a particularly good fight. Judah started out ok and is the better technician but like in most of his fights he was waning in the later rounds and Clottey would have had the better of him if the fight continued. The reason why Judah took his chance with the scorecards including the ninth.

Clottey could give anyone problems. Strong and durable but he is so bland and boring to watch. No style.

What a crappy little venue The Palms is. No atmosphere and souless.

No rematch please.

Maturin, I think you're sport on about the venue. It really detracted from what was quite a good fight I thought to have the atmosphere just sucked out of the building like that. I've seen UFC run there a few times and it's the same deal. Fightsport promoters should just dodge that place altogether.

I enjoyed the fight though. Going into the ninth I had it 77-75 Clottey and had it even after six. There was no doubt about the winner once it wentto scorecards though and even if it had continued Clottey would have carried on hurting Zab with the straight right.

I don't think his style is overly boring and a Margarito rematch would almost certainly be exciting just because, y'know, it's Margarito fighting somebody. Steve Bunce (on the UK Setanta broadcast) reckons that Bob Arum will duck that fight though and look for someone in a different weight class to take on AM next).

I don't know where Judah goes from here. That's a couple of comprehensive losses in a row now.

EDIT - Also, Clottey has to be one of the bigger and more stronger 147lb-ers I've ever seen. He looks like he is chiselled out of granite.
